Hi all, It's a long story, but bottom line is I borrowed a Victa Corvette Series 500 (2-Stroke), it worked great for an hour one afternoon. The next morning I went to use it again and it started right up, but as soon as I move the throttle into the "Run" position the engine almost immediately shuts down. If you keep the throttle in the middle it will run until it is turned off.
I have taken the fuel system apart and cleaned it, put it all back together and get the same result.
Since I had not mixed the fuel (and was giving off a lot of blue smoke) I flushed it out and re-mixed myself (no more blue smoke).
I noticed that the spark plug cap (the L-shaped rubber boot) had split, so I taped it up and lightly sanded the spark plug and scraped the corrosion off the terminal with a screw driver.
Any ideas?

Sounds like a blocked jet, remove it and see if you can blow through it easily, stick a pin in it and clean out with carby cleaner if you have some handy.

Thanks Dan.
About the jet, it is very clean, but that raises a question I had. Above the thread of the jet there is a hole covered with a fine mesh (all clean).
Is that hole supposed to be aligned with anything in order to work properly?
Thanks again.

No doesn't have to be aligned. The jet may look clean through the mesh but they block up inside which is why i suggested the pin. If you push the primer while it's on run will it rev up?

^I will look again (with a pin) and see what I can find with it. Thanks.
I have not tried pushing the primer on Run as it dies as soon as you push it down to Run.
I will give that a go before taking the pin out and see if it helps (with a little gymnastics).

Okay, I just primed it while in the run position and it does indeed rev.

Yep mine did the same thing, engine isn't getting enough fuel was blocked jet in my case. I had completely overhauled the carb new diaphram, needle, cap and oring and still did it, then i tried a jet from a another mower and was perfect. Also make sure fuel is flowing freely from the tank.

Dan the MAN. That did it.
I would have sworn that jet was as clean as it could be, but using a pin to clean it out revealed the tiniest fleck of whatever built up in the centre chamber of the jet.
This was my first experience with that carby, word to those wanting to try this, be very careful when removing the white plastic cover that you don't lose a small black plastic trigger that goes above the float. Mine fell out and it was a miracle I found it in the workshop. Without it petrol will flow out of the primer bulb.
Thanks again Dan, I'm back mowing this morning.

Yeah thats the needle, yeah at first these carbs can be tricky but after having them apart once or twice they are in fact so simple. No worries mate here to help.
