So I have now put the old original flywheel and coil back on and rigged up the STENS ignition module for negative ground as per the instructions. I have heaps of strong spark now, but it still seems erratic to me. When compared to the same model engine which produces a very even spark, this one seems to be sparking twice as often per revolution. There is no even sparking, just a blurred series of spark. The acid test will be after I put it all back together and fuel her up.

One potential problem I did note was the earth contact spring had been positioned a bit too low on the big Flo-Jet carby and this may have been causing it to earth out. I have positioned it higher so there is no possibility of it touching against the Bowden cable clamp.
