I pulled an old bitza out of the shed and am wondering what year model the baseplate would be from. It appears to originally have been painted orange or Victa red.
Motor that came with it has no. 46z22235 stamped on the crankcase.

Thanks Chris

Hello gnomester
This presents as a Utility base.

By the late 1970s - early 1980s - it appears that Victa abandoned its red colour, a symbol
of their 'Professional Range' in favour of green. Also, The full crank Victas sold alongside
half-crank Power Torques for a period (depending on the model).

Also at this time. the old red utility base was replace with a small safety skirt (like yours).

Best guess, this is a late 1970s base, but prior to 1983.
But I am not an expert here.

Hope this helps

G'day folks,
I'd date this one to late 1970's, and pre-1980. Full crank engine, but not side starter - the Utes went to that setup for the 1980-81 season.

The reason I say this, is the positioning of the exhaust slot in the base - the side starter full crank Utes had the muffler positioned at the front, as in that 1983-4 brochure.

Cheers,
Gadge

Thanks to you both Jack and Gadge for your replies.

After posting my request I spent a lot of time trawling the forum, looking for a similar baseplate. A 1978 utility owned by forum member Cuscus looks like my photo and also fits with your knowledgeable replies.

Thanks again
