Just Wondering if any other members have a Yazoo mower? I will be picking it up in 2 weeks and i will try to find an engine that matches. They were made in the US and i don't know much about them here. Just wondering if there a rare machine here. first pic is mine, second is one in a good condition, thanks for reading!

Hi Kye

Yazoo credit themselves as being the original makers of the 'Big Wheel' mower.
Yazoos were imported here by the Red Roo Mower Company in the 1970s.

However, the biggest seller here were not the Big Wheels, the competition
from quality Australian-made slashers was too great - Rover, Cox, Greenfield
and Deutscher. The biggest sellers here were the Yazoo YR range of ride-ons.

To answer your question. These are not rare, but are not common either.
They would have been imported in their hundreds (not thousands).
Your machine, best guess, would have had a Clinton motor.

Some historical information here: http://www.musschoot.com/yazoo-tractors/

A manual for your machine here: http://www.jackssmallengines.com/Yazoo_kees_owners_manuals.cfm

Yazoos are no longer made. However the Red Roo Company survives: http://www.redroo.com/videos/video/48

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info cyber! Wish mine was more complete! Hopefully i will be able to track down a Clinton and the cover for the front on my travels, i saw a few on google with Briggs & Stratton engines and i was wondering if they could have been stock or added later. I will add more pics once i have it back laugh .

Hi Kye

Yep, in fact, the illustration above shows a Briggs engine.
Yazoo also offered Wisconsin Robin engines. A 5hp Briggs would
be fine. The harder things to find will be the cutter shaft and
pulleys.

The photo (late-1970s) below (Queensland Show) is a special one.
It shows the YR (Yazoo Rider) and a Yazoo Big Wheel.
The engine on the big wheel is a Wisconsin Robin (I think).

This particular Yazoo ride-on was the first one imported to Australia.
It is the YR60, fitted with a Wisconsin single cylinder.

The man on the seat is RO Fleming, the founder of Red Roo Mower Co.
He was always called 'Aro'. He also used to import Snapper lawnmowers
and ride-ons. The warehouse was in Toowoomba.

thats cool as cyber! i will probably just look out for a cover and engine to start then look out for the other bits a pieces here and there. Hopefully all the stuff is their, the bloke who owns the farm said he used to use it so it should all be there. Now i just need to look in his 100 piles of scrap until i find it laugh
