Soap Dodger
Ian is my name, I'm just another retiree living in sunny Queensland with not much to do and all day to do it in.

With little more to go on than dunno dad jus won't go can i have the keys now, i was left to sherlock the old Masport as it was dead as a dodo, to cut a long story short the carby was full of nasty looking oily stuff and hanging on by a couple of threads seems number one son had forgotten what i told him about running the fuel out before putting it away, how the heck it ran with the carby dangling i don't know, probably why the young fella used to start it with an electric drill.

I Purchased a new B&S noice blue one my fave colour, and i have decided to rebuild the Masport, I hate seeing mechanical things in a state of disrepair, so far so good the bore looks nice no scores same with the piston, doesn't appear to to be to much wrong with her that a bit of tlc won't fix, however i am wondering wether i should replace the crankcase seals while i've got her up on the table any thoughts tips would be appreciated.

if a hammer doesn't fix it, the problem must be electrical

Ian,

:welcome: aboard to the forum. It is good to see a new face here and one that is willing to post questions as we love to help all new members here.

Anyway yes I would replace the seals to be on the safe side because nithing worse than putting things back together and finding a leak and have to pull the machine down again. I have learnt that from experence and for the cost of the seals (which are bugger all) it is worth it.

If you have any more questions just post in the aproperate area and one of the moderators or members will help.

Once again :welcome: to the forum.

Regards,

Welcome, Ian. Can you tell us what kind of engine the Masport has please, and if possible post a couple of pictures?

Hi Ian and welcome. You will find it very helpful here. There are lots of people here that are more than happy to help you with all sorts of problems. It's great here I love it.Also I agree with Bruce yes change the seals very easy to do.You never know how good they are, even just pulling the engine apart could unsettle them.I'm sure you will find them here in the online store.Bruce has a lot of good parts in there, and prices are (So far from what I can see) are better than my local shop anyway.
Have fun and enjoy.

Here for a good time, not a long time.
