Hello ODK history lovers
Sydney’s Champion Rotary Mowers must have held a small but not
in-significant share of the Australian rotary market in the 1950s.

They made solid, novel and now-collectible machines.

Note the rubber fins on the flywheel, an alternative to Victa’s
‘Fan’ mowers of just a couple of years’ before.

They were probably equally in-effective.

Please read Related Reading (below) to discover more about these
handsome lawnmowers.

Here I discuss a rare find: a pocket-sized brochure [more a leaflet really)
printed for the great Anthony Horden’s Department stores.

A significant point of note is this: Champion appeared to embrace a
side-chute in 1955, but reverted to the ‘toe-cutter’ base in 1956,
albeit in alloy form. It appears, to me, that Champion had a very
close eye on Victa. But Champion was way ahead of Victa with their
understanding of ‘range’. Range gave more consumer choices.

I date this publication to about 1956.
At this time the range included four models: -
- Champion Junior
- Champion Standard
- Champion Senior
- Champion Major

PART TWO – The Horderns' Brochure

This Champion brochure is from my collection and it is amazing that
it survived at all. It’s connection with the great Anthony Horden is
significant too. It’s a single fold with the double page spread appearing
on pages two and three.

As always, I make this document available to members for viewing or as
a quality download. Enjoy!
