MOD & GREENFIELD TECHNICIAN
G'day 'dddd' and gml

gml is right. Yours are classic examples of early 'red' greenies and fit between gml's chronologically. His red is an example of the first model (we think) and his yellow Is one of the latest of that shape.

I think I can make out that the spare chassis frame has the early style front axle beam pivot that is of welded flat plate and the other has the 'formed' pivot. This indicates the spare frame is slightly older.

Stooge around. There are a few threads on the dating of these things.

The G80 (and the bonnet cutout) is an afterthought as gml says. Gadge comments on this in another thread only last week- the G80 came along in the mid seventies and your machines are from the late sixties.

That said, I reckon maybe I'd keep it that way! The modification and the G80 is part of that machines history and the G80 in itself is an historic artefact. And it's a bit of fun! The most monster 'red' Greenie seen to date smile

A good find. Have fun!

Cheers

P.S. The drive clutch/pulley on the front of the 80 looks a bit different.

P.P.S. And the funky welded on pulley/clutch on the RH side of the frame.?? Might need to look into that......?

gday prd
Thanks for the comments , I too love the g80 engine and realise is not original , the cutout in the bonnet is a doggy job someone has done to fit the stupid tank on it not the original tank btw
The clutch pulley on the g80 is a centrifugal clutch
The stupid pulley on the rhs is someone's attempt to try fix the drive pulley set up

Anyway have a good one cheers

I just found this thread. I really like the look of this yellow beast with fat tyres. I just parked an old rusty one of these in my carport. Where did you get the red greenfield sticker for the front of the bonnet GML?
