I've been told that two strokes shouldn't be honed because they have a special coat on the bore is this true on a power torque bore? Or just motor bikes?

I dont usually hone them unless the bore doesnt feel 100% smooth, (but usually I dump the long block and bolt on a healthy one if it needs rings....) I give them a quick go qith my super cheap auto cylinder hone in the power drill with fast up and down movement.

I havent had one come back with that method being used over 4 years, I dont think there is a problem.

Well I just heard from my car mechanic it's fine to hone them just not motorbike 2 strokes as they have a barrel, sleeve and the special coating.

Sound like its probably got a chrome bore. Ive got a 137cc stihl chainsaw with a chrome bore, there wear very little.

I gave my powertorque a hone by hand/fingers today with some really fine sandpaper. Not perfect i know.

By the way check in the bore just above the exhaust port, there should be a small section grooved out leading into the exhaust port. Mine was completely carboned up and i nearly didn't notice it.

G'day, oops i may have confused you, i meant the motorbike would probably have a chrome bore, the powetorque should be hone - able cast iron

Correct.

The Power torque is cast iron, the whole cyl block.

What you are reffering too is an alloy bike cylinder and it has a hard chrome plating, i think Nikasil is one of the trade mark names, there are af few. Most commonly used on 2 stroke dirt bikes, motocross bike 80's to present day. And things like trimmers and chainsaws. The majority of trail bikes have an alloy cylinder with an iron liner. Perfectly honeable. With the head off you can see the iron cylinder in the alloy.

Cheers, Bob.
