Hello all, I recently acquired an old Scott Bonnar that was on it's way to the tip. No way, if it has a motor I want to play with it first, so it is mine now!
So I bring this contraption home and get the pressure washer onto it and start checking a few things. I 'tipped' the foam out of the air filter as it had all disintegrated, checked the oil, cleaned the spark plug, gave it a drink of petrol and began pulling on the starter rope. After the 20th pull the rope snapped and then I had to figure out how to pull that apart and re-fit the rope. Another 20 pulls and it fired once, all the time trying different positions for the throttle and choke and another few pulls and it fired 2 or 3 times and soon after it started !! I engaged the dog? clutch and the cutters were working and pulled another lever on the handle bars and away we went ........ self propelled ! I ran it for a while and warmed it all up, drained the old grey oil, threw some old oil in it and warmed that up, drained it and filled it with some good old HD oil. Next on the list is a new spark plug and check the valve clearances and points.
The info I have from a couple of stickers are as follows .....
Tecumseh Kirby HK30 (3 hp I presume) Serial No- 0061 1589. Spec no- L1259. Mower No- 45 14407 and it has a 20" cut. That is about all I know at this stage, but it runs well and cuts well although I certainly do not have a good lawn to try it on. The only thing missing is the little knob on the gear lever and the catcher. I have found manuals for lots of other model engines but not this one (HK30). I have also found a catcher on eBay, but I'm in no rush.
Mick.
