PART THREE – Operator Instructions
From about 1968 Australian mower makers agreed to a voluntary
code for safe lawnmower design. Various makers adopted marketing
programs that capitalised on safety being a desirable selling feature.

Hence, Turner introduced their Safe-T Mower range of lawnmowers
and they were advertised with safety being a key selling feature.

This is reflected in the documentation that accompanied every
Turner lawnmower.

The most obvious thing to notice is the simplification in operating
instructions. Gone were the bloated manuals of the early 1960s.

The new approach was for short, succinct, instructions that
probably reflected a reality – folks get bored with reading too much.

So, accompanying the ‘green’ Operating Instructions, there was
a separate ‘orange’ Safety Instructions card that summarised the
Standards Association of Australia recommendations for
operating lawnmowers.

Also note the third document – a handlebar hanging-tag -
directing owners to air filter maintenance.
