A woman brought her machine over and asked for help to get her mower going again the other day and has left it with me.
It's one of those Briggs classics with the riveted recoil starter and familiar foam air cleaner screwed over the carby throat.
Apparently a huge fellow attempted to start it for her when she couldn't and and broke the plastic starter pawls.
I'll need to source a spare starter, which I haven't got.
I can use a drill in the mean time to see if the engine will go. Upon removing the (loose) plastic dress cover, I discovered a litany of readily apparent faults and bodges.
The throttle controller on the handle looks like it has been stuffed for a long time and rendered redundant and the lever on the carby left in a fixed high rev position. No wonder I always heard it screaming away!!
It has one of those cable operated safety cutouts on the top of the handle. She said she just squeezes it and pulls on the starter and she's away.
I found two bolts missing that secures the tank and carburettor to the motor. I managed to find two bolts that were a suitable size.
The filter is filthy as well. That will need a cleaning.
It has one of those deuced bar bladed as well.
I think I will have to try and convert her to the wonders of the Victa two stroke if I don't get it running again.
Pictures to follow.
