Hello,
Just wondering if anyone's chucking a Chonda mower (engine) (or specifically the carburetor) similar to that of the GXV120. I know these aren't really worth saving, but I have one that I want to get running and having some donor parts might help and would keep costs down.
I'm located in the Hawkesbury of NSW.

I got a pair of Rovers yesterday with badged 5.5 Honda motors on them but I think these are those fake Hondas that I bought some years ago that required starter fluid to get them started from brand new day one. Condition of carbys unknown but they are usually left with fuel in them and usually not worth looking at

You can buy new carbies pretty cheaply on ebay to suit them if you really feel the mower is worth saving.

Hi,
I have a Chonda thats been really good. One thing to be careful of is that their seems to be a few different types of Chonda. Mine is the Sanli version but others look very similar but are not exactly the same and certainly not Honda. Even the new Briggs & Stratton look awfully like a Chonda but are not exactly the same. Could be an issue if buying parts online sight unseen.
All the best Jeff

![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2017/03/full-9841-33681-100_6696.jpg) These are the 2 Hondas my mate picked up for me from an old mowing contractor who said they were just worn out. If I ever found a Briggs with oil in it this clean I would be stoked, so I'm not sure why the motors would be worn out

G'day Norm, They are both GCV series OHC models, not the 'commercial duty' GXV pushrod OHV engines.
With belt drive to the camshaft, which is prone to jumping a tooth or two - and this of course tends to render them a bit gutless...
Cheers, Gadge

Your saying push rod is actually an advantage here? Next you will tell us side valves will be the next big thing on mowers.
A friend was recently given a flash looking Victa with Honda and I was thinking wow, this one is ohc. Maybe that's why he has done nothing with it and let it sit in the elements, while he uses his domestic Lawnkeeper by Victa V40 four stroke or his old banger Honda ohv mower to do people's lawns with.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Your saying push rod is actually an advantage here? Most definitely. Honda has designed the GCV's for the domestic market, and taken a few shortcuts to lower the price in the process. Next you will tell us side valves will be the next big thing on mowers. Nah, but I was thinking about spruiking the 'F head' [i.e. overhead inlet, side exhaust valve] design, though... AFAIK that one hasn't seen use in small industrial single engines, only multi-cylinder car engines. Not at all unlikely, that.
Cheers, Gadge

Hi Gadge, is there any simple way to check it the cam timing has jumped a tooth, I'm not going to waste too much time on them if they are problematic

Hey guys, not really worth spending the money on a new carb, but if someone was dumping one (near where I am), some spares might come in handy to get it up so I can sell it off. Here's a pic of the carb/mower style in case anyone's chucking one. ![[Linked Image from i998.photobucket.com]](http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af101/Widget1983/IMAG0009_zpst5gqcujh.jpg)

Check this out as you're not going to get it any better.
Remember this one has the fuel tap while the slightly cheaper ones don't.
Cheers, BB.
