Hello all I have 550 that runs great but the drive unit mechanism seems siezed, and the belt is badly cracked ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2015/08/full-9141-23358-dscf4927.jpg) i have a spare one that the mechanism works fine ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2015/08/full-9141-23359-dscf4928.jpg) My question is. Would it be easyer to swap the motor over onto the one that works or swap the backwheel settup . Any input would be greatly appreciated. hope this is in the right spot cheers

depends on what the bases are like , if both the same condition just swap engines , the drives are harder too do . or just look and have a scratch think about it . you could get a book to explain the drive system too , but might be easier to take off the wheels , remove the drive gear and use it as a push mower

back again just spoke to bill in the shop he recons i can get a gearbox for about 360 but as i have two i may be able to swap parts/gears. he recons you fellas can help. part no CH85352A. the pulley at the back spins when motor running but no wheel movement. with motor off when i turn the back wheels the pulley doesn't move. smashed gearing i presume ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2015/08/full-9141-23368-dscf4937.jpg) muchos gracias chance favors the prepared mind

is the engagement lever always been cut like that?? do the drive dogs spin when you spin the pulley with the lever pulled forward? (the inside of the wheels may be stripped), i haven't pulled a gearbox apart , never had to, but i have a spare, just have to make sure it's ok. also, the belt in the top pick is not on right, check the wear on the post...

so take the wheels off and check the drive dogs, also check that the pulley is not spinning on the shaft, maybe broken roll pin?

it would seem that the one with the seized up cable's gearbox works, but i broke the engagement lever. got it off. worried about breaking the other one when i take it off or put it on. the drive dogs drive ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2015/08/full-9141-23389-dscf4943.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2015/08/full-9141-23391-dscf4942.jpg) when i engage it and turn the pulley the drive dogs turn. so basically i think i need to try and swap over the engagement lever and put it all back together????

![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2015/08/full-9141-23397-dscf4948.jpg) the gearbox on the right works, I think, the cable on the left is siezed, the one on the right seems to have only 1 inch movement, is this enough to engage the gears or should i take one inch off the cable casing with my side cutters to make the cable longer. havent broken anything yet got the broken lever off and the new one on. pure luck i think

try hanging the cable , drip wd into it or make a small cup out of a thing called plastcine i think its called not sure of spelling on that one cup around the top of it and fill with wd crc or the like , dont cut cables that do a specific job as they are a correct length inner and outer . yeh trim throttle cables but not those , the fit into brackets at both ends so to shorten will make it tight outer , stressed inner (like me) we gotta keep sharp things away ?

try diesel it penetrates better didnt ever free up a cable on your bike when a kid ? platsicine is sort of playdough , but today i think its been classed as unsafe . find something like it if you can , at the top of outer cable when its hanging (from a door, gutter, a tall slow moving kid ) make a little cup type thing out of t , mould it to the outer cable so penetrene wd diesel crc wil soak into the inner of it , then just ease it slowly sometimes or most times it will free up work it untill its nice and free keep it lubed . soak for as long as it takes , most times it has worked

if the cable inner is moving freely, then 1" movement should be fine.....as vc has said , never cut a specific cable, it will never work! if it's not moving freely just free it up as suggested. by pulling the lever your engaging a clutch in the gearbox, so not much travel needed. put the blues back on , breath deep and it will all be ok...ok.ok

diesel and auto trans fluid - used that mix to unseize engines a few times. The Diesel penetrates and the ATF lubricates ...
WD40 has worked on cables plenty of times too. Just need to be patient and persistent.
Good luck!
Pete.
