Just wondering if anyone can help. I have now decided to do up the14" rover i have but need some advice as they are a little different to what ive done before. I need a need bottom blade and screws. The reel needs a grind, but i cant seem to get them cyliner out as it doesnt just pop out the top like the scotty's ive done before. Also need the springs that go under the reel cutter adjustment. The key for the reel to drive shaft is the last thng i need. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Hi seanstuch, I have done a little researching on the Rover 14" Thoroughbred for you and what I have found is not encouraging...Rover stopped manufacturing the Thoroughbred after the acquisition of Scott Bonnar and concentrated their cylinder mower efforts on the Model 45 Scotty.
Consequently, no new parts are available; second hand parts are also very thin on the ground....The fact that no parts are interchangeable with the SB Model 45 further compounds the issue...
This makes your restoration a real challenge unless you can source the parts you need...
Could you please post some pics especially of the chain case (without the cover) so a we can get an idea of the sprockets general condition. wink

There is an Illustrated Parts List in the Scott Bonnar Parts Lists and Manuals for the Thoroughbred, you would need to subscribe to the manuals area to download it. Instructions how to access the Manuals area is in the second post in any topic on the main forum page...Click HERE
This may come in handy, if you decide to proceed. Hope this is of help,
cheers2

There's the sprocket. Also how do you get the reel out?

Hi seanstuch, the pics that I was asking for was the side view of the whole mower chain case. As I suspected, that sprocket above has had its chips with pointy teeth and plenty of wear...what are the rest of the sprockets like?

Never having seen a Thoroughbred I don't know how the reel would be removed...I suspect that you may have to remove both the reel bearing hangers complete...they sometimes pivot on one bolt at one end and secured at the other end by the cylinder height adjusters. Can you please post some pics of the machine as we're flying blind here. wink

sean, if you look at the larger of that pair of sprockets - the one behind the small sprocket - you will see it has completely lost its teeth, every last one of them. The small sprocket in front is also badly worn, but the teeth have not fallen off yet. Both those sprockets have been run for years with worn-out chains, and the out-of-pitch chains have caused wear that widened the base distance between the teeth, undercutting the teeth.
