I bought a replacement motor for a little tiller , so annoyed with the owner, they must think we are fools. I got the thing running for him after he bought it on ebay and 2 days later brings it back telling me something is wrong with it. Had a quick look and on screwing the spark plug out it was squeaking so I told him it had been straight fueled but he assured me he had explained it to his wife how to mix the fuel and it obviously had mixed fuel in the tank, obviously put in after the motor had stopped. Pulled the barrel off and it was totally screwed as I would have expected after removing the spark plug. Anyway my question is with the replacement motor the carby is on its side (must be off a snipper or something) and I'm wondering if they will work on their side as I have never tried running one like this. I guess there is only one way to find out unless somebody knows if it will work.

That story again. The fact bludger tried to deceive you instead of being upfront means you need to tell oxygen depleter to beat it.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Yes Norm, I think they are designed to work in all positions..... upside down. The don't have a float , work in a different way. I keep the carbs of whipper snippers I dump. I just put one on a Tanaka a few days back and she ran like new........ Tanaka .. best trimmers..... speedy

Hi speedy, I knew they would run sideways but I have never seen one in a fixed sideways position but at least I have confirmed it. MF, still adamant it wasn't straight fueled but I am an old man and I have seen it a million times. Even the small end needles have been blued

Norm, I curious to see how it was mounted.
But diaphragm carburetors do operate in all positions even upside down.
I had a good customer I loan one handheld leaf blowers to while I was repairing his and it came back locked up. PNC destroyed from straight gassing. It was old and my personal blower so I wasn't too mad and he offered to pay for it too.
I get customers all the time bring in straight gassed stuff while right fuel in the tank. So yes they think we are so dumb.

Hi AVB, Apparently this motor is a replacement for a pole saw/line trimmer so in the horizontal position the primer bulb is at the bottom of the carby but in this position with the motor as a vertical shaft on the tiller the carb is horizontal with the primer bulb facing the front. Couple of small issues the fuel pick up grommet is now in the side about half way up the tank ( not a big issue as it has quite a big tank so half full is plenty of fuel) The filler is a bit difficult to fill as instead of being straight up it is on an angle and the worst bit is the exhaust now points straight up and blows smoke into your face. Apart from that it works fine and they claim this motor is for commercial use, not that commercial use is any better if it is straight fueled

Ahhh. A setup for those smog breathing aliens.
And even commercial 2 cycle doesn't fair any better without oil.

Hi AVB, he is going to put an elbow on the exhaust to blow the smoke away from his face
