I have a couple of 16 inch Chondas for sale on Gumtree for $50 they run fine had the oil changed and blades sharpened and working fine with a warrany if they have any problems, for small areas like a Unit. I had a clown yesterday want it for $30 so I replied that is fine but I will remove the fresh oil the carby and the blades, when do you want to pick it up? He didn't reply I also had another one, not sure if it was the same idiot who sent me probably 10 emails wanting to pay half the advertised prices. I kept telling him to just go away idiot and last night he sent me another one saying he had reported me to Gumtree because I called him a dickhead . Gumtree certainly attracts the dumbest of the dumd, the percentage of low intelligence people there proves why the world is in such a mess these days
Things like this is the very reason I quit fixing up used equipment for resale with a 30 day warranty. Just keep getting insult offers. One the last guys said he could buy mower all day long at yard sales cheaper than what I had priced at. Ask him did he see the end of the driveway and he replied yes. I hit it and don't come back.
Just because they can used partially broken down equipment on the cheap don't mean I will sale equipment that is good working order for the same prices.
I'd put them up for double that, especially if you're offering a warranty. I sold my Yardking for an undisclosed sum north of $100 recently. I think a lot of women prefer a 16". They're nice and nimble compared to a regular size domestic mower. They lady buyer said she can't handle a larger mower.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Hi AVB, yes I would hate to be trying to repair and sell mowers and try and make any money, I do this to keep the brain working and giving me something to do and get satisfaction from getting things working. I am slowly working my way through the pile here and I am not looking at picking any more mowers up. I have probably 50/60 2 strokes I can build over the next few years and the only other things I will bother with are the big 24 inch Victa slashers and a few Ariens self propelled I can pick up. MF, Yes the small mowers are fine for women as long as they live in a unit with a small yard, they are great for maintaining a lawn and if used as designed for will last years. One big problem I find with a lot of these cheap mowers is people want to use cheap E10 fuel in them (its only a cheap mower so why should I put the more expensive fuel in it) and we all know how that ends up
I have a masport up at the moment on gumtree for $130 - full service, new 4 blade disc with new blades. So far 10 people wanting my email address, 2 wanting it for $50-60 who I tell to GGF'd
I don't do it to make money (although its nice to get a decent price) mainly to clear the shed.
Think I am going to try marketplace to see if its any better, gumtree is useless now and it wasn't good to start with
I also say if you can't tell me what fuel a 2 stroke needs, don't contact me - I am sick of trying to explain a 2 stroke to idiots who then after 20 minutes of trying to get it through their skull then lowball me $20 in person.
These are some of the reasons I stick to doing these sorts of jobs for friends and family. I’ve finished dealing with people who want something for nothing. The culture of reciprocity I believe in where there has to be enough in every business transaction to keep all parties satisfied seems to have missed these clowns. Somewhere along the line they’re rewarded for exploitation and they keep at it, it’s the same philosophy as telephone scammers.
The circle I engage with shrinks and grows over time but there’s multiple generations involved, I hope they will all, with a little occasional correction, look out for one another.
I wouldn't advertise a good running 16 inch Chonda for small areas like a Unit because of all the ones I've had will last years and cut half an acre of grass for years , that's all the Chonda mowers that get oil changes + air filter cleaned and are good mechanically when I get them.
A lot of people don't realize when they message you on gumtree that you can click on their user name in the message and it goes straight to their Gumtree account so as long as you keep their message you can wait until they are listing items for sale and then message them that you will buy something they are selling at half price but some you can message straight away as they have for sale ads at the time.
I was selling a good Vintage mower for $100. and had a guy message me to buy for around $50 and when I looked at what he was selling he had the same mower that wasn't as good and was asking $250.
If you go into your email account, not the gumtree messaging account you can block them from ever sending messages again ,that's the easiest thing to do with lowballers.
As we know Phone messages are easily blocked too.
It's kind of funny what people do as I've had buyers fill the tank with diesel and one guy took his mower to a service station to ask what he should put in the fuel tank and the guy at the shop sold him a bottle of engine oil so I get a call that the mower won't run.
Sometimes I give buyers a free 5 litre fuel can just because they have no idea where to buy one from.
