Drove past a house with a couple of things on the verge - a $99 ozito electric rotary mower and an ozito push reel mower.

I cannot understand why people still buy these things (either of them) as they are crap, and it is getting more widely known

Anyway, driving past I was reminded by the quote by Will Rogers

"There are three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves."

Or in this Ozitos buyer case, pee on the fence three times - there was a $199 yardking chonda mower on the patio...

Hi Tyler,
a few weeks ago a woman down the street asked me if I wanted a mower she had. I walked down with her and she told me her son had bought it for his sister but she didn't want it and she had only used it once. Once I saw it was an Ozito, I explained to her how she could put the catcher in the bin one week and if she removed the handles she could put the rest of it in the bin the next week. She looked a bit surprised but I left her with the problem

99% junk.

However, some time ago, they used to sell a great corded rotary hammer drill. I had only bought heavy duty tools mostly from Makita and Protool/Festool with the “buy once cry once” mantra and I can say I’ve never had a dud. The only one I’ve not been completely happy with is a Makita single battery circular saw that I bought a couple of years ago, its never let me down but it’s gutless.

About 15 years ago I was asking a couple of friends, who were plumbers, which of the various tool hire companies they would recommend and they asked me what I was after. When I explained I needed a rotary hammer drill for a long weekend they both said not to bother hiring one. There was a heavy duty metal bodied Ozito that they both used. It cost less than the price two hire periods to buy and came with a two year warranty.

I bought that drill and have used it repeatedly over the past 15 years. Because it was so inexpensive I’ve also loaned it to friends, not something I usually do. It has kept going and going, I now own two others, one a battery Makita which is outstanding especially for elevated work and the biggest Bosch that I use for rock and stone penetrations but the Ozito still gets its share of use.

Likewise, I bought an Ozito hedge trimmer about 10 years back and it is still cutting hedges. I've used it to the point of abusing it at times. It was very cheap and in the bargain basement bin as a discontinued model. I reckon that hedge trimmer has paid for itself a hundred times over. When I first bought it everybody kept telling me it was rubbish and would only last a few months. Well it proved them wrong. As for Ozito mowers, I do tend to agree with others that they are crap. Every time I go through the old mowers at the dump, I see more than a few Ozitos and nobody touches them.

I have read positive reviews on their compact petrol chainsaw that Bunnings were selling as their cheapest model. One reviewer said he kept it in the boot of his car!
I found a cordless drill in hard rubbish without batteries. I discovered I could use the batteries from my Aldi impact driver. They don't quite slide all the way on, but they will operate the drill fine. I have been using it regularly ever since. Very nice drill.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I definitely agree, ozito make some very good stuff

I have the ozito paint sprayer - $40 and it has saved me countless hours
2x ozito petrol blowers – plenty of power, they use the old ryobi PLT motor
1x split shaft trimmer – again ryobi motor

Have a large complement of 18v Xu1 tools (made by ozito) – only one that has let me down is the angle grinder (though the circ saw is gutless)

I also bought the little ozito 10in chainsaw. They are a knock off of a Zenoah g2500. Absolutely amazing saw. Sold under 100 different names – gmc, 909 and 100 others in UK and USA – eg

I guess what we are all saying is Ozito does make some good stuff.

But these mowers are not amongst them.

I picked up one of the push mowers, tried it (after adjusting) and put it straight on the verge.

Gone within 5 minutes.

And if I had a dollar for every electric one with a ‘working’ sign on it sitting on the verge, I could probably but 2 of them new.
