Found this today amongst a bunch of other ride on wrecks at the back of a mower servicing shop.
It was surrounded by a metre of weeds so the teen son n I fished it out. Fair bit of surface rust but nothing a wire wheel n drill won't fix.
The compliance plate is missing on the body but there are numbers stamped on the power pack.
Anyone able to say what make, model engine it is and approximate age. Would it be the original? They said it does start so I thinking of selling it should anyone be seeking parts.
Hi, That is a Rover Colt Major, model 7313, 5hp From approx 1976 going by the engine code. Can you take a pic of the engine from the back side of the carby? The alternator sticker has me intrigued, usually that was only on models with electric start. If the engine was originally electric start I would be interested in it, as I have the parts here to make it complete
If I am reading the engine number and it is guessing it is 130907-0310 decode the model show it came with a electric starter and a 1.2 regulated DC stator.
Its a pull start motor. Would it be the original motor do you think gents? I just read your thread now Nath. Is it just the power pack your interested in?
The foam air filter disintegrated when I touched it. Fortunately that happened whilst air housing was removed so nothing fell into the Carby. Seals, hoses are all in good condition. Gave everything a good WD40 bath and everything is moving freely and as designed. The fuel cap is stuck so I'll let the WD40 do its job and try again later. When pulling the starter it works fine and you can feel decent compression. They said it hasn't worked for a long time. Will check the plug, drop the oil and see what happens. What is a good substitute for the air filter?
Yep thats an electric start engine, missing the starter motor, you can see the ring gear on the flywheel. I have the motor here for one. The sump was also different as the fill bung is normally in the way.
The colt was offered with electric start, although I have never seen one, so it is very possible that its original.
Best thing for the filter is a new one, they are easily available at any briggs dealer.
I would definitely be interested in the engine, i would also take the whole thing depending on what you want to do
I'd like to keep the chassis and mower deck. The power pack is certainly available so you can complete your project. You said you have a spare rear axle right. What does that look like mate?
The young bloke n I are thinking this one or the other I'm picking up from Mich in Armidale will become a Mario Kart / tractor / fun machine on our acreage in the NSW border ranges. We'll get another engine for it. The original I'm seeking the axle for will continue to be the ride on mower.
Hi there. New air filter for that can be bought from Bunnings. So it’s not a B and S filter, still works fine. There are documents on the internet that decode the model make and code numbers for you. Just google “ Briggs and Stratton model number identification†and you will see stuff come up. It is in pretty good nick, and should be easy to get running again.
