Going by the cobwebs I doubt it is running, but if the seller says running it must be running

The only running involved here is to be running away from it as fast as you can.

G'day all Harley lovers,

Yes, indeed. Very vagrant with the truth.
Mystyler will be happy ... there is a record! grin

I love me a good History Record! More bedtime reading.

And that video concerning the downfall of H.D. is outstanding. Great find.

For sure!

Not that Harley-Davidson mowers don't exist at all...

Here's a HD 'Servi-Car' 750cc trike, converted by some pro engineers to a ride-on mower; https://advrider.com/f/threads/dickin-around-in-dougs-garage.516355/page-285#post-35580827

These things have a 3 forward + reverse gearbox, so that'd be one quickish mower. cool

Cheers,
Gadge

Hi all,

I think that HD trike mower would be useless in my hands ,I would never get the blades to cut the grass.

As for that Qualcast on ebay ,Ive thrown out better Qualcast mowers than that.

Cheers
Max.

Qualcast would have made a better motorbike.

No, No, No, MF the world didn't need another British motorbike using oddball threads and antiquated designs. Sure people would collect them but just for the low production numbers making them rare these days, not for their performance, not that I am saying the HD Servi-car was a performance machine

G'day Norm. MF, Max, Gadge, Mystyler, and BB
I am disappointed here.
After 11 bids this mower sold for $113.50.

[Linked Image]

The seller sold this using a deception - he/she offered no proof
of the description claim he/she made.

Caveat emptor.

Yep; I'm reminded of the old aphorism often attributed to PT Barnum; 'There's a sucker born every minute - and two to take him'.

I have no doubt the seller would be squealing like a stuck pig if the roles were reversed.

Dodgy selling has no doubt been around as long as selling itself, but I cannot understand it. Like I mentioned above, if it happened to them, the cognitive dissonance would be hilarious if not mind boggling.

Hi Mystyler and all caveat emptor lovers

"Cognitive Dissonance" would be a great name for a modern jazz band. smile
It sort of reminds me of another great phrase ..."Gestalt Shift". This would
be a great name too.

And it doesn't have to be jazz - that brings on think-misalignment.
It could even happen in country music! I'm a big fan of the USA's
The Cleverlys ...

These asides aside, you make an insightful point.
Regrettably, I feel many folk ignore that old Christian adage
about doing unto others.

Folks may have noticed that the Harley mower has been relisted!
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Harley-Davidson-Vintage-lawn-Mower-Running/402268312366
Currently 5 bids at $91....

Yesterday, I contacted the seller, asking about the HD connection.
Still no reply.

I remain frustrated that I cannot contact eBay about this.
If folks know the trick, please tell me.

And what about the postage costs? Am I missing something here.

Cheers

Hello Hillbilly Jack,

All jokes and singing aside, there is a "report item" button on each eBay listing. Unfortunately, there is no option in the drop down menus to properly categorise it as "misleading." Caveat emptor indeed.

P. S. I had not come across the term Gestalt Shift before - its a good one!

G'day Jack, Norm. MF,, Gadge, Mystyler, and BB

Report seller here https://www.ebay.com.au/help/buying/working-sellers/report-seller-listing?id=4022

I have not reported the seller just showing how, click on link then first page scroll down then click on Report a Seller then log in,
after logging in the next page pops up click on the circle next to, The seller has violated one of eBay's policies
then click continue ,the next page will open then fill in details then click on submit.

Hillbilly music reminds me of this.

I was thinking the last buyer was a dummy bidder with a 12 rating.

If eBay gets a complaint the ad will be taken down ,I do recall when someone complained about a Whirlwind seller
saying Whirlwind was better that Victa , of course the Victa guys complained and the offending ad was removed. aussie smile

I have heard the HD connection story from someone who contacted the seller, the story was the mower has HD parts. WTF

The Rabbit or the Duck you can't see both at the same time.

Cheers
Max

Ahh yes; one of my alltime favourite band names was coined by one SJ Perelman, who was a scriptwriter for the Marx Brothers' classic earlier films.

This was, 'Chalky Aftertaste and his Musical Poltroons'! cool

A common format for band names at that time was 'So and so and his whatevers', e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_big_bands

Another favourite band name was 'Alberto y Lost Trios Paranoias', a 1970s Brit pisstake band.

Then there was Poly Styrene, lead singer of 1970s Britpunk band X-Ray Spex...
Edit 14 Jun, to add this classic YT live performance vid clip; [video:youtube]
[/video]

However, for sheer genius in pisstake song composition and performance, The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band is unsurpassed, IMHO. Their 3-CD 'Cornology' collection is worth seeking out.

So basically, Ebay provides a platform for con merchants to get away with fraudulent activity?
What a great corporate citizen.

G'day Max, many thanks for that info. mad
I'll just mosey-on outside and do some exercise. Here it will
be my favourite "kick-a-few-things" I will do this with great gusto.
I will be humming Armstrong's 'What a Wonderful World ...

[Okay. did that, burnt some energy. and have calmed down...]

The only good thing about this episode was the humorous posts
by members made here.

Many thank to Max for that link.
Unfortunately, I never made a complaint.

That it was said/claimed that this mower had HD parts is total BS.

Thanks Gadge for the humourous take on band names. Brilliant.

Thanks to all for a great topic!

I gave it a crack, Jack, but I don't think eBay really gave a damn. I got an auto email from them, and that's it.

There are better Qualcast mowers on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree that struggle to sell for less than half that!

I only hope the winner doesn't come across ODK, and have their folly crystallised. Poor buggers, I do feel sorry for them. Perhaps they'll enjoy their new purchase, who knows.

I have been following a Paypal problem that has now gone on since the first complaints started in 2017 that is 3 years and there is now 52 pages of complaints about a particular seller that for some unknown reason Paypal continue to allow to use their payment platform So if anybody is interested never buy anything from Strong Current Enterprise, at least Ebay and Gumtree seem to be blocking their ads for the last couple of years but obviously around the world people are getting stung on a regular basis

G'day Mystyler
Gadge is playing with my mind...
How about 'Buddy Folly and the Crystalisers'?

Mystyler, I never did get a reply from the seller.

G'day Norm ... I have put out an ODK fatwah on that company.
But have you considered, The Strong Current Enterprise and the Paypals.

Sorry - still kickin' things around.
Still angry with a minority of auction sellers!!! mad

I don't think your typical biker thinks of mowing a bowling green when considering a Harley purchase.

Reagan was abit inconsistent with his Republican free marketeer ideology when he introduced tariff protections at the request of HD.

For a little more play...

Just recalled another one from the 70s; 'Richard Hell and the Voidoids'; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Hell_and_the_Voidoids

Then there was the 1980s band 'Blue Rondo A La Turk' [from the title of a Dave Brubeck jazz tune], who had this strangely compelling song;

Not surprisingly, this one was produced by Kev Godley and Lol Creme, of Brit band '10cc' - one of the greatest 'pisstake bands' of all time.
Yes, I do know what the [raunchy] derivation of that name is; you'll have to find it out for yourselves!

Even the band name 'Steely Dan' [and superb they were] has a pretty raunchy provenance - hint: it's an 'object name' from William S. Burroughs' rather drug-addled novel 'The Naked Lunch'.

Cheers,
Gadge

G'day Gadge
I feel you would make a brilliant eclectic music historian!
I kept shaking my head with disbelief at the 'Blue Rondo' link
Folks at home will know the brilliant Brubeck from Take 5 HERE.

As a teen, I had a pisstake album of the Beatles.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rutles
You have now educated me - a cover or tribute band
is not quite a pisstake band.

Gadge, I now realise ... I'm an amateur!

I'm too scared - now - to investigate 10CC and Steely Dan.
My parents might have said, "Jack, don't go there!".

I remember some of their songs; one of my then mates back in the late 70s had their album 'The Rutland Weekend Songbook' in his collection.
'Song O' The Insurance Salesmen', 'Communist Cooking', 'Accountancy Shanty' - brilliant stuff!

Nah, nothing really 'off' - mentioned in their Wikipedia entries, actually.

Yes, I'd concur that my musical tastes are best described as 'eclectic'.
Bits of everything from Baroque and Early Music, through a little of the Classical genre, to Fats Waller [1940s jazz], and more modern bands up to the present day.

Here's a very 'politically incorrect' YT [ monochrome!] vid of one of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band's classics; Look Out, There's A Monster Coming.
