Acquired a mac 3214 which had been improperly stored and the fuel lines were rotted. I replaced them and the primer bulb. The saw runs, and I can keep it running by gently squeezing the primer bulb, but it does not seem to pump fuel itself -- without squeezing the primer it stalls. The line on the right of the carb, opposite side from the fuel input on the left, seems as though it might be to receive a pulse to work a fuel pump. But where does the other end of that line connect, to receive a pulse from the engine? Thanks!

rustypete,

Ok what you have not done is replace the diaphragms in the carby as they also will be damaged from the unleaded petrol.

The pulse primer is part of the carby which moves the pump diaphragm in the carby in order to such fuel from the tank but note that fuel should flow from the tank to the carby only a trickle.

Hope that this is of some help. cheers2

Thanks you! I will inspect the fuel pump diaphragms. But where does the other end of that line connect, to receive the pulse -- is that in fact the purpose of that line? There seems to be another hole into the fuel tank for a line, but no pulse can come from there. I really am confused as to where the far end of the line on the right side of the carb connects.

thanks
pete
