Whats the diff with half and full crank Victa's? Why is one better than the other? And what year did they change over?

cyclepro101,

The year they went to the half crank was in the early 1980's.

A full crank Victa (In my opinion) is far better than a half crank option. The reason being you have a more balance crankshaft as you have bearings on both ends of the shaft.

The half crank only has bearings on the load end and usually requires the engine to be run at maximum RPM's in order to get a decent life. Where as the full crank can be run at different speeds without greatly reducing the life of the engine.

The full crank under normal operating conditions could last up to 20+ years where as the half crank you are pushing 10 to 15 years.

Unfortunately I am one of these people that believe they weren't made like they used to be but I have only been around for about 30
+ years in this business and still think that back in the old days people made things that last. They had pride in what they did which has been proven over the years.

These days people are only seem interested in the mighty $ and think wealth is everything and have no interest in regards to helping others. That is why I started this forum.

I better get off the soap box now otherwise all the members will think that I am only chasing the dollar myself. cheers2

I agree Bruce.

I remember being at a Victa school back in the late 80's and asking the question as to why the full crank was discontinued in preference to the 1/2 crank powertorque, and the answer given to me was they could not get the 160cc full crank to comply with noise regulations.

I prefer the old G3 carbs too, but I am showing my age with that!

And the 125cc engine used to last forever . . .

Thanks fellas, since I have got this Victa going that was given to me I have found a new passion for mowers. The one I got is about a 2002 model (black plastic carb, 160cc)but I would not mind getting my hands on one of those old 125cc full crank mowers. Its interesting you said that these newer mowers NEED to be run flat out? Anyway thanks for the feedback

Steve
