Hello ODK History Lovers

This is the History Record for the Victa Vicroy.

The 1962-63 lawnmowing season would be a significant one for Victa.
The previous season, Victa had opened its London office, and the company was
now venturing into being aircraft manufacturers, with the first Airtourer air-
craft moving down the production line. In 1963, Victa would introduce a new
concept in telephony, with the famous 'Red Phones' rolled out across Australia.
With all these going-ons, Victa's 'bread and butter' would still be lawnmowers,
and the early 1960s was a time for rapid expansion of its lawnmower range.

The 2-stroke Victa Vicroy, along with its 4-stroke equivalent, the Ambassador,
would be Victa's first rear-catcher lawnmowers. Introduced in late 1962, the
Vicroy would have a host of new features.

PART TWO - VICEROY SPECIFICATION

The Victa Viceroys were made in two model variants: the Model 505 (Vicatcode V14);
and then the Model 517 (Victacode V15). The steel based chassis would remain
unchanged. The main difference appears to have been in the engine configuration.

The Victa Green Book specification is comprehensive.
The red square defines the specific differences for the Viceroy.
I will cover each difference in the next part.

PART THREE - Chassis

The Viceroy used Victa's 10A chassis, meaning that Victa's first rear-catcher
lawnmower had a steel chassis. The Model 7 grass catcher was also of all-steel
construction.

Also of note, is the use of the new 9C blade holder that took four blades:
two flat cutting blades, and two fluted catching blades. Interestingly, at this
time, the fluted catching blades were different on the side discharge and rear-
discharge Victa models. The 9C blade holder would be the main blade holder Victa
would use for most of the 1960s.

PART FOUR - Engine

The Vicroy was fitted with either the 10C or 10G versions of the 125cc Engine.
This means that they were only offered with impulse starters, but had different
cowl and fuel tank configurations.

ENGINE ANCILLARIES
The Vicroy had the Victa 5e or 5J magneto and 3F Carburettor.
Special note should be given to the two different starter housings for
the impulse starter. Also of note, is the short-lived 7G & 7H choke
and filter assembly.
