My Victa won't start. I have drained petrol, removed plug & turned over as recommended in answer to another question. Put in new petrol with no luck starting.
I removed plug & dropped some petrol in, is started & ran a second or two the stopped.
The mower doesn't get much use over winter & spring. The primer bulb doesn't seem to have the pressure I remember when priming when it would start.
Any ideas I can try at home rather than taking to repair shop

geoff sydney,

1. What type of motor are we talking about two stroke or four stroke?

2. Did you get fresh petrol from the petrol station?

Let us know which it is 2 or 4 stroke as both have primers. cheers2

Thanks
The Mower is a Victa Vortex 2 stroke.
The petrol was fresh, bought 2 days before.

geoff sydney,

1. The fuel line going to the carby needs to be taken off at the carby. The easiest way to do this is first push the fuel line towards the carby and then pull off.

2. Then turn the fuel tap on and have the end of the hose in a jar and check the fuel flow and you can also see if you have water in the fuel at the same time as the water will sit at the bottom of the jar.

3. If the fuel flow is good and you do not have water in the fuel then the next step is to take out the screw in the centre of the white plastic primer cap and see if you have any dirt in the screw.

4. If it has dirt in it then take off the cover (be careful because a needle is in the cover) clean out the screw and the area where the fuel sits.

5. Then put the cover back on and make sure that the line on the cover is in a horizontal position to the carby as that is the setting for the fuel mix.

You can get more detailed information in the parts list and manuals area of this forum. cheers2

Thanks finally got back to it last weekend.
the fuel flow from the tank was good.
checked for dirt in the screw & was clean.
tried it & the mower started but wouldn't keep running. This is a change as the mower wouldn't start like this before.
i started again & primed & this kept it going but stopped when i stopped pushing the primer bulb.
