I am currently repairing an old Rover 5144 (etc) and need to sort out the transmission system.
All I need to know is the original diameter of the DRIVEN pulley. This is the one that comes into contact with the friction plate on the engine pulley.
I also understand that this pulley has a slightly convex (or chamfered) friction face. Specs on this, or even guestimations would be helpful.

Hi Tentimes, and a warm welcome to the forum. Its great to have you aboard. grin
In order to be able to correctly identify your model and assist you with your query, could you please give us the exact model numbers and serial number...usually found under the seat or affixed to the machine....also could you please post some pics of your machine, this will help also.
Once again, Tentimes, :welcome: to OutdoorKing.
cheers2

Hi Deejay,

All reference numbers on this unit have long since disappeared, however I recall this being a common part for all 3 speed, variable friction drive machines (5127, 5130, 5138, 5144, 5150, 5244, 5250, 5255).
As for pics, none are currently available, however the image shown on https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=14865 is identical to this machine (hope I'm not being rude by 'borrowing' someone elses image).

Hi Tentimes, I have done some research for you, but, unfortunately to no avail. The pulley is no longer available; and from my inquiries, no one I spoke to, could even guess the diameter.
My advice would be to contact Rover (MTD) in Brisbane and ask to speak to someone that has been in the spare parts area for some time...they may be able to give you the advice you need. wink
Maybe one of our members will see this post and have the answer.....Sorry we couldn't be of more help,
cheers2

**UPDATE** Bruce, our forum Administrator will have the measurement for you shortly....A chance encounter with one of his customers revealed that this gentleman has the same model and will accurately measure the pulley for you. grin
Watch this space.... lol

Ok here is the measurement of the alloy drive pulley:

Width is 3/4"

Diameter is 5"

Hope that this helps. cheers2

Hi Deejay and Bruce,

Thank you both for your efforts with this one. I can now hit the machine shop and work some magic.

By the way, the ONLY person left at Rover (now MTD) who knows what day it is, let alone anything about Australian Made machines is BOB in Brisbane. He is a walking, talking encyclopedia of Rover knowledge. Unfortunately, this question was one of the very few he was unable to answer.

Now, where is the button to send both of you an ice cold beer via your USB ports........? cheers

Any chance you could put up some pictures of the machine and what you are up too.

Would be a help for others.

I have 3 of them here, im hoping to at least make up one eventually.
Believe it or not i moved all these the other day and i was thinking myself how i would go bout getting one of them machined up should i not find one that was useable in the pile of bits.

Im thinking rather than a Colt i should fix up one of these old Rangers with a two stroke on it. Question is do i use a Briggs or a Suzuki.
