I have a McCulloch chainsaw which I have just received back from my son in law after an extended stay.(not working)I have pulled it down and beleive it can be ressurected with some new parts e.g.plug,air filter, clutch, and new fuel lines.Iam not sure of where to go to price parts and if it will be worth the effort in the end.Can anyone give me some guidance? It is a Titan 50 model #60015209 around 10 years old. Cheers

Thanks again for your help.I bought fuel line and a spark plug this weekend, replaced all fuel and oil lines, reinstalling springs in those lines with them.Cleaned up magneto and I am getting a great spark but the thing refuses to fire.Doesn't seem to be dragging the fuel up to the carby.Seems to still have good compression but maybee not good enough.

Gac, Replace the fuel filter in the tank and remove the muffler and have a check to see if the exhaust port is clear of carbon. Then try to start without the muffler on. If it starts then you could have a blocked muffler or screen in it. Also check for scoring on the piston & cylinder. Try this stuff first and let me know be fore we further.

Hi bruce, Just got back to playing with the saw this morning.Did as you said and still not firing. Can't really see any major scoring of the bore, looks good in fact. But thats only comming from an untrained eye.Is it possible to stuff up the timing by removing and replacing the magneto coil in the wrong place in the cycle? Also is it possible to check compression easily?Rings maybee?

Gac, I don't think it is the rings at this stage from what you are telling me. 1. Did you put the key back in the crankshaft where the flywheel goes? 2. Did you reset the air gap with a business card? 3. If you put your finger over the spark plug hole and then pull the starter to see if you get any signs of compression. 4. Are you getting fuel(is it fresh) to the cylinder (is the plug wet)? 5. If not try putting a small amount down the plug hole and see if it fires at all. 6. If it fires up then we go to the next stage carby. Answer these questions and then get back to me with the answers.

Bruce, I tried everthing you said this morning.Plug is not wet so its obviously not getting fuel.Compression seems resonable with a finger over the plug hole.Didnt take the flywheel off (realised after that this would be the only thing to upset the timing).Fuel directly in the head produced a great result fired a couple of times.Carby blocked somewhere? The old lines fell apart in my hands. Thanks again for your time, Regards Greg P.S Any luck with parts?

Greg, I can get the air filter but the other parts will take some time to get. 1.You will need to replace fuel filter (in tank) fuel lines and carby diaphragms. Once you have done that I am sure that you will have a good machine.

Can I assume you can source these parts for me?The only thing I will need to get it going,(besides air filter and now carby diaphrams and fuel filter)is the clutch.I purchased new fuel line from the local mower guy.Dear as poison.I have the 3 clutch segments but the spring is broken. Can that just be replaced? While I am at it I may as well fit a new bar and chain. Are they still available? Thanks again for your patience, look forward to your reply, as always, Greg

Greg, The bar and chain you can get from your local mower shop (after market type). The carby diaphragms can also get from your local mower shop (max cost $20.00). The fuel filter in the tank you can use an Oregon type (Cost about $8.00 max) The clutch springs that will be a bit harder but I am sure that you could get after market springs again from your local mower shop. McCulloch part number 227360. If you want I can supply the parts that you need but they will be after market.

Hi bruce, I have struck a brick wall up here as far as the clutch goes.My local guy says I am wasting my time and that clutches and /or clutch springs are no longer available, "may as well throw the saw away"!!. I can get a carby kit,new bar and chain ,fuel filter and air filter but all to no avail if I can't get a clutch spring. I have been to 2 spring suppliers up here who will gladly make me one for "around $150", and they have nothing off the shelf to suit.I have been to several mower places and all are not even interested in trying to chase one for me,"absolutely unavailable"I'm told. The spring seems to be a seperate McCulloch part on its own. Any clues as to where else I could chase one down????. Regards Greg
