Hi guys, I am after some help on a rover colt 5 project I bought. It came with no belts. Does anyone know if this model has 1 or 2 belts and what the belt measurements are? I looked online and purchased a cutter belt ao5423 (59 x 5/8) and a ao5456 belt but not sure they are the correct ones? A picture showing the underneath of a colt 5 with belt/s fitted would also be very helpful if anyone could assist? Thanks guys

Looks like you got the right belts going by the model number.
Its pretty easy.
2 belts.
Should be an 'A' section from the crank pulley to the pulley on the gearbox, clutch holds it in tension. This belt will need to go on first.
Cutter belt should be a bigger 'B' section if my memory is right. From the crank pulley to the deck. The deck sliding back engages the cutters.
I have 4 of them here in various states of stuffed, When i get time i will have a look under and see if one has belts on it.

Thanks, I will take another look. The smaller belt still looked too long to fit but as I said, will check again

Those are the correct part numbers as shown in the Colt illustrated parts list. There is no real illustration of the cutter belt, but here is the wheel-drive belt: ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/10/full-2772-8316-rover_colt_5_wheel_drive_belt.png)

Thanks Grumpy. Ive tried to fit the belts as suggested but both are definitely too long at least by 2 or 3 inches. The pulleys all look factory and as per diagram you posted. I will measure the belts themselves to check what Ive been sold. The model plate definitely shows 73113.

Ok Ive measured the new belts. The cutter belt is supposed to be 59" long but is actually 61" ( packet says B59 and belt is stamped B59). Likewise the smaller A38 belt actually measures longer at 40" . Each belt is 2" too long and when trying to fit them they did look about 2" too long to do the job. I am guessing the issue could be coversion between our Aussie belts vs USA belts. Looks like a trip back to the mower shop!

Rovers are Australian made.
The difference you get is because one is measured on the inside and the other is measured on the outside.
Its a Rover part number, rover part, rover packet, rover measurement.
I assume that you took the size and then went to the local bearing place and bought the belts. Take em back, they should swap em, well as long as you havent got them dirty. If you are going to do that, best option is (only if you are sure that you know what the right size is) get them to order in some kevlar wrapped belts. They are usually blue. Will outlast 2 or 3 regular belts.

Thanks. I first sussed correct belt numbers from the web for my model number... Went to mower shop where they checked what was needed and sold them to me. These belts are not genuine Rover. I will have to measure around on the mower to make sure. Yeah they are clean and packet intact so shouldnt be a drama.

Take them back to the shop. They sold them to you for what you said you wanted them for and they do not fit.
I would say once upon a time you would have been able to get belts from a rover dealer that had a nice carboard slip over them with the rover logo etc on them. Machine is older now and you would be lucky to walk into a big dealer and find a guy that knows what a colt is. Restoring old jap bikes is fun. A good parts guy is worth his weight in parts.

yeah, Ive taken them back to the shop and they are certain they are the correct belts and said there is only one listing for that model for belts. They are happy to give me a credit. I haven't had a chance to get an actual measurement around the pulleys on my mower yet, but will do so in order to determine exactly what size belts are needed to fit it. In the meantime I am wondering if maybe the pulleys have indeed been changed at some point in it's life...would you happen to have specs on the size pulleys that should be on the colt 5hp ??? Thanks again.

Yeah they say they are. If they were in a rover packet I would believe them.
Too tight will not work either so measure carefully.
If the ratios were altered you would almost certainly only do the driven. The drive is too hard as its two pulleys in one. The driven pully would need to be made smaller. Well assuming you want faster rather than slower.
The pulley on the deck would be cast or machined of some sort. The pulley on the motor and the one on the box are fabricated from sheet steel. If the raitos had been altered i would expect the replacement to be some sort of modified over the counter pulley.
