Hi Guys and Happy New Year to all.
Over the break I acquired 2 Murray Ride ons to rebuild. Number 1 is 16-42 Model 42817X99A DOM 1044 with a OHV16 Tecumseh Serial 204204A (D) 4032S, 6 speed manual. It needs the steering fixed, very loose and sloppy the cutter deck needs some attention and chassis has minor rust, paintwork is iffy. Number 2 is a 14-42 Model 9 38211X20 DOM 0209 with a BS 400707 twin Type 150501 Code 89011312, 6 speed manual. It also has steering problems and one of the cutter blade spindles has desintegrated and the other 2 spindles are a bit loose, chassis and paint are in pretty good condition. Both engines appear to be OK.
I have looked model numbers up in all the Murray sites and a few forums but have been able to an IPB or operators manual for either. Does anyone have and info on these or they direct me to where I can find some. Thanks in advance, cheers Keith.

Hi Guys, Started woking on the 14-42, repaired the steering coupling disc, but there is still a lot of play, it appears to be coming from the bush on the bottom of the steering quadrant. An IPB would be handy, need to look at brakes next. let you know how it goes. cheers Keith

If the bush at the bottom of the steering column is worn, you have to replace it. If it isn't worn, check whether it is eccentric, as a way to adjust the mesh. Either way it is no big deal to fix. The only real problem is if the sector is excessively worn and you can't get another one.

Hello Grumpy,
Had a quick look, doesn't appear too hard to get the assembly out, about 3 or 4 nuts and some rods to disconnect, I'll have a go on the weekend.
Cheers Keith.

That sounds like a common design, Keith. The main issue is possible damage to the gear sector from running with incorrect meshing (it looks in the diagram like a stamped metal part). Here is a typical Murray steering: I'm guessing you will just need to replace Item 22, Bearing, Part No. 55168 if your Murray is the same as the one in the diagram.

Hello Grumpy,
Finally got back to doing some work on the 14-42. Thanks for the IPB, unfornately it is yhe wrong configuration. I managed to download an IPB for a Model 38211 from a US site and identified the worn bushes as Murray Pt# 20587. Any ideas where I might be able to obtain Qty 2. Bruce does not appear to stock them on the Outdoor King site. The assemly came out fairly easy, about 7 boly/nuts and a steering rod linkage. Thanks and cheers Keith.

I believe the system with the Outdoorking shop is that if the part is not listed you can PM Bruce and he will see if he can get them through a distributor. If he can get them, he will add them to the list.
Other than that I think you would probably need to find a US source who is willing to mail the parts overseas. In my experience some are and some aren't, but you can usually find one who is. If they are not available from any source, bushes can usually be turned up on a lathe quite easily.

Keith, Even if the part is not listed on the site we are able to supply all available murray parts and your part number changes to 020587MA and cost is $10.00 approximatly. Any questions just use the contact us on the online store or even the live chat for help.
