Hi All,

Adam from Melbourne here.

Recently borrowed an older model Greenfield ride on off my Father. long story short, the drive belt broke.

So I took the broken belt to a mower shop, they measured length and section and supplied me a new belt ($52.30)

So... fast forwad to today and I am fitting the new belt. I have fitted it as would make sense to me, however it appears to be 'way' too long. With it fitted up and the tensioner all they way down, I can still pull the belt about 50 - 60mm up off the large drive pulley...

Please review the pics and let me know if I am a complete doofus, or maybe I have been supplied the incorrect belt?? I realise that the plastic pulley is worn (see pic) but not enough to generate the slack that this belt has. Also note that I pulled the belt snug by hand for the photos to illustrate where it is running.

Many thnaks for heis great forum smile

p.s Belt # is A138 (as in 1.38m in length)

Cheers, Adam.

Hello Adam,

I am pretty sure the belt that is on the plastic pulley ( right hand pulley looking at pic) is on the wrong side of the pulley. This can be confirmed by looking at the pulley, if the pulley does not have a V and the surface where the belt runs is flat, the the back part of the belt(the flat section of the belt) should contact the pulley. If their is still too much slack then the belt is probably too long. Hope this helps. Cheers Keith

I can't give you a clear answer Adam, but you might look at this thread:
https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/u...4&Words=greenfield&Search=true#Post26576

In conjuction with Keith's comment, there might be an answer there. Unfortunately although this problem comes up from time to time, we never end up with a picture of a properly set up Greenfield drive belt, for future reference. When you get this sorted, please post pictures.

Note that A138 as a belt size means an A section belt (1/2" wide on the wider side) that is 138" long, not 1.38 metres which is only 54.3". The common types of belt still have Imperial dimensions.

Thanks for the replies fellas smile

The plastic pulley in the pic has the V in it, the steel pulley adjacent to it is flat (back side of belt)

I chatted to a few folk today and one mentiooned that an A134 was more likely to be the correct belt, which makes sense if the above is correct, and the belts are indeed imperial in length measurement. That gives me 4 inches less belt length, which may just do the trick? I will swap the belt tomorrow and advise....and I will post pictures once completed smile

Thanks again.

Adam

An A134 would shorten the center distance by 2". I notice with the A138 you have the adjusting pulley (behind the two big clutch pulleys) all the way extended, so with an A134, by the time the slack is taken out of the belt, the adjusting pulley will probably come back to something a bit more normal as well. I had the feeling when I read your first post that A138 did not seem familiar but A134 did, but I'm still not sure about it. I looked at the Greenfield parts lists on Outdoorking, because often the mower manufacturers' part numbers have been overmarked with the standard belt part number (such as A134) but unfortunately none of them seemed to have been marked up. So, please let us know if the A134 fits and works properly. Then hopefully we'll be able to search and find this thread in our archives in future.

Guys,

The shorter belt may make a difference, I am still of the opinion that the plastic pully is not right. I think that the plastic pulley should be a metal one that is flat like the one on the opposite side and the flat side of the belt runs against it. As a observation I have never seen a plastic pulley in a Greenfield.
Cheers Keith
