Probably a simple answer but what's better , 2 or 4 stroke.. I'm looking at spending around $600 & use the mulch option 90% of the time

rubi,

It depends on the slope of the ground but if it is not over 30 degrees in slope then four stroke is the way to go.

2 strokes are very maintainance free but use more fuel.
Did you know that about 20 percent of the fuel used in a 2 stroke engine goes unburnt and just gets flushed out with the exhaust gases??May want to think about that one too.
4 strokes are quieter and nice to use.
I don't mind 2 strokes though. They sound good and are easier to maintain.
With a 4 stroke ,you have to remove the blade disc and change the engine oil every now and then which is a pain.No such dramas with a 2 stroke.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
