I have a Victa Utility of 1995 vintage. Its been great till 12 mths ago. Now it eats spark plugs, (one to a can of fuel). It now has no spark at all. I have new plug, new air filter and fresh fuel...but no brrrrrrrrrrr. Gunk on discarded spark plugs has been black and carbon-like, but also wet. I also have a small problem with a broken rope that I cant re-thread re the recoil so have to take top off and rewind each time I pull it. Ima (patient) gurl! Laffin. Would appreciate any help available as I have no idea but am able to do whatever if given a clue. We have no one here where I live that fixes mowers. My email is dheal@telstra.com. Cheers and tyvm. Jay

JayJay, It sounds like your rings are worn and need to be replaced. I assume that the engine is a Power Torque one. 1. When you take the starter off do you replace the 'O' ring on it? 2. Is the machine blowing black smoke? 3. When you hold the blade disc do you have much movement from side to side? Answer these questions first and we will go from there. Hi Bruce. Thank you for your reply.
The mower is a Power Torque one.
It isnt (wasnt) blowing any smoke.
I dont take the starter off<<?? My mower starts via putting throttle on 'start, turning fuel on, priming it then pulling cord, ..... then moving throttle to 'run. When I rewind the rope I just take the plastic protective cover off the mower, rewind rope and replace plastic cover, and that is all.
No extra movement in the blade disc.
Cheers and thanks. Jay

A gremlin ate some of that last reply.
When I rewind the rope I only take the plastic cover off the mower, rewind rope on to its wheel then replace the plastic cover. It hasnt been pulled apart more than that.
Cheers. Jay

JayJay, I still think that the rings are worn. Did you download the information from the parts list and manuals area of the forum? It is a real help in repairing the motor. The power torque are easy to work on normally and if you have to replace the rings I would also replace the bearings as well plus the 'O'ring under the starter. The total cost of parts would only be about $60.00.
