I've just been given a Victa 80 series and am about to pull it down to clean and replace necessary parts.

I was told by the person who gave it to me (and confirmed myself) that it starts ok but after running for about 30 sec, the revs go up and down randomly and then stalls.

The only way to keep it running is to slide the throttle back and forth (revving it)

Appreciate any advise!

Skope,
I have emailed you information on the carby and starter. This should help to start with. I need you to do a couple of things:

1.Check the fuel flow to the carby. If it is very slow replace the fuel tap.

2. If fuel flow ok then check the carby jet to see if it is blocked. If it is not blocked then go to next step.

3. Remove carby & check that where it locks on is not loose and that the 'O' ring on it is not damaged. If loose fitting spout then remove it replace 'O' ring behind it.

4. If that does not fix your problrm then we go to next step.

5. Remove starter & check that 'O' ring is not damaged. If it is replace it.

6. Hold blade plate and see if you have any movement. If you do then you need to replace the bearings.

Try these things first and let me know.
