hi rover forum members i have aquired a rover tiller. iam guessing its a later model because of the nylon wheels and B&S sprint 375 engine. l would like to at least cosmeticaly restore it and want to know the name of rover paint colour and also if anybody can give me the dimensions of the ripper and the attachment bar so i can fabricate one have seen the parts manua so i can go off that for looks. all help would be much appreciated
I've seen the Rover mower /tiller and the Masport tiller rebranded ,the Maspost being a copy of an earlier British Landmaster Gardenmaster tiller.
Also seen the Scott Bonnar Morrison Tiller that is also a copy ,it's usually easier to buy an old tiller to get the parts you need as I've sold a few under $50.
With the paint there isn't an off the shelf same colour so ,you can match the colour close enough off the shelf at a shop or get the colour made up from a sample at a paint shop at a greater cost.
thanks max From what i have managed to ferret out most people had the mower base and not the tiller. i did find pristine paint under neath the hand grips on the handle. i taped them off to keep as a reference as i may paint it correctly in the future. l did find on here a member posted a pdf of a parts manual. i was able to scale of the picture for dimensions of the ripper which was missing. i would like your opinion if you can. if you find the parts manual on here take a look at the exploded diagram part 18. im trying to figure out how the spring steel works because the ripper tyne would move backwards if it hit a root and the spring would have to be fixed therefore cannot it being of any use apart from stopping a little lateral movement i will post some pics later in the week when i finish the engine repairs minus the ripper. that will take me a couple of weeks to fabricate. once again thank you for your reply as any information is invaluable
I thought it might have been a different tiller as the way it was described ,sounds like it's had a replacement engine fitted because the Rover mower/ tillers were from the sixties and seventies and the sprint motor being from a different decade.
The ripper you've mentioned is a depth tool bar, shouldn't be too difficult to make the missing parts just time consuming. To me it looks like where I circled the part in blue in the pic below it would be made from spring steel (the short steel bit with 3 holes ,1 hole where it locks in and 2 holes where it bolts to the spring plate 26 )you could make this part from an old car stabilizer bar but it will take a long time drilling the holes at home without special hardened drills.I've drilled spring steel with Sutton drills and you have to start with a small drill and slowly go up in sizes and keep sharpening the bits as you go.
Video showing depth bar adjustment below.
Old Tillers restored look great for display purposes but if you wanted a small tiller to use new ones are cheap to buy.
Hi max once again for your, A a little more time has passed and a deep dive on the web the sprint 375 engine is a 1995 model so deffinately a replacement. It had its first test dig today 18/09 and it tills like a demon. As far as the depth tool i managed to scale from the same drawing and getting dimensions off it ( boilermaker by trade with a bit of machinist thrown in to get myself into trouble. from what i can remember the we had on the farm when i was a teen the ripper helped to put back pressure on the tiller so that it didn't pull. Sandy soil here in Perth dont really need it as you have to push .the unit was given to me so semi restoring was a cheaper option as well as saving and using some Australian history. i trying to work out how to attach pics. regards Philmore
