Been given an old Rover mower with B & S, seems only thing wrong is broken starter cord. I've done plenty of starter cord repairs, recoil spring fixes, pawls etc. but never touched one of these vertical pull start jobs.

Before I start pulling things apart any tips and tricks for a vertical pull set up or is it straightforward?

Hi MM,

They are fairly straightforward and I don't remember ever seeing a repair manual for one but if unsure you
can watch a video repair.

Cheers
Max.

The Briggs Repairman's Handbook PN CE8069 covers these starters.

Great, thanks Max,

I'm into day 2 of painting a large kitchen/dining/loungeroom.Unfortunately the mower will have to wait - I know which job I would prefer doing today :-)

I have never bothered replacing the cords on these, always had boxes of these pull starters, easier just to replace the unit. I have thrown a lot of them out now, the days of these old Briggs are numbered around here

Well that is in store for all of us Norm; not just the equipment.

I am recouping from another Afib attack myself. I got stuck at 200 bpm this time with 40 lbs of fluid built up. They had to shock me back to what they call normal. (you know I never been quite normal :/) Back to normal now but I am keeping a much closer watch on things including my weight. It had to stay within 1.5 liters of water intake for now. I only had spend three days in the Horsepital this time.

Trying to make to when I get on Medicare here in June then I can see the doctors more.

Hi AVB,
Sorry to hear about your health issues, they catch up to us all eventually. Only time I ever went to the doctors was when I broke bones and then once I reached about 67, the doctor visits picked up speed and now I have to keep a book to keep track of all my appointments.
Hope you are feeling a bit better now, just have to take it a bit easier

And probably a shopping cart to carry the pills. I am only up 7 pills daily. Before I was only taking two pills. One of the current pills I can't take as it severely upset my digestion. One of my former neighbor when stop at the drugstore always came with a small hand basket full of pills and that was each month.

Thanks AVB for "The Briggs Repairman's Handbook" ! Wish I had seen that decades ago.

And yes, as a 1947 model I am very familiar with the downsides of getting on in years.

Was given a birthday card - "Growing old isn't for sissies". Too true.

MM,
You probably don't want to hear this but in 3 years you will be 80. A mate of mine keeps telling me I will live to 96 and I keep telling him I don't ever want to be 96 because I have seen what 96 year old people look and act like and I'm not interested
