Got given this a few months ago

Old fella died, sons would rather use a battery trimmer than anything petrol. Serviced and rekitted carby by a local shop 3 or 4 years back and not run since. Drained the tank and it eventually fired up and ran reasonably well. Have used it a few times and its not a bad trimmer.

Only problem is the primer doesnt work. Its a single line remote primer that looks like it pressurises behind the metering diaphragm. What gets me though is according to the manual says fuel should squirt out the overflow pipe - but cant get it to do it.

My working theory is that the wrong kit was used and its missing a breather hole somewhere

Anyone else dealt with on of these

Hi Tyler,

Have you tried to replace the fuel filter because if you are not getting fuel coming out of the hose that could cause some issues.

Hi Bruce

I fished it up out of the tank and it looks almost new (probably done when the carby was kitted).

Runs beautifully, just wont prime. Will start digging on the weekend
cheers

Hi Tyler and Bruce,

You can always use the "put up with it" method unless you intend to flog it off down the track.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hi Tyler,

Do you have fuel coming up to the end of the fuel line (with petrol cap on the tank) was the question.

I would not assume that something was done they could have just tried to blow the fuel filter clean and not replace it?

You should follow standard procedures before moving on to the next steps.

Hi Bruce

Runs beautifully, plenty of fuel up to the carby, very new fuel lines (tygon) Not a drop of dirt in anything. I will swap it just in case

MF, it fires up it 5-6 pulls so its not the be all and end all, just strange it does everything perfectly except prime

Got an old Honda GX22 motor firing for a few seconds with a squirt of petrol down the intake after doing damm EVERYTHING to the carb several times but couldn't prime it even with two new tubes going to and from tank without a filter attached.

Turned out the primer bulb had a small split around a moulded dimple at the top, not at all obvious visually, even after I found it. The split opened up under finger when pressed, closed up when released.

Replacement bulb did the trick.
