Hi all
New to the forum, thanks for having me .
I have a greenfield ride on that will just not start, I have replaced carburettor, starter motor, spark plug, solenoid, battery and all she does is just turn over but will not ignite.
Any thoughts guys ?
Thank you in advance
Mat

Have you tried a squirt of starter fluid, that will always give you an indication that it is going to fire. If not then you will have to really start digging into the motor. What motor is it?

Hi Mat and Norm,

Have you checked the compression is good as sometimes a valve can stick open.

Might be worth checking the flywheel key isn't broken, if it's sheered the ignition timing will be out.

Cheers
Max.

May be worth checking valve clearances as I've had some engines where the rocker stud has come loose and the valve doesn't open.

Valves adjustment is under the valve cover on the front of the motor, you will have to wind the motor over by hand to find compression stroke and once at TDC both rockers should be free moving. This is for pushrod motors, but this motor may be over head cam and that is different again

I just came past my big job I will never put off again, those valves. you will need a torque wrench if you are going to take the cylinder head off and lap them. huge learning curve and effort on my part, but I am very happy to have done it. I have a couple of recent threads here on all that, plus some yotube links. this new one I saw today was a little more helpful.

I was going to get around to it, but I have a couple of digital endoscopes. I was going to sneak one in through the muffler outlet (after taking the muffler off) to have a look in there.

Well guys she’s up and running πŸ₯³ there were a number of things up with it, my armature was shot, my carburettor was rusted on the inside, fuel had water in it and also my valves were slightly out
Many thank guys for all your help,

Now my last thing to do is to replace the cork as it some times sticks in forward or reverse

It’s never ending lol πŸ˜‚

Hi Mat
Good to hear you got it sorted and yes rideon at this level do require constant maintenance. I have a mate who bought a big zero turn quite a few years ago now and the only thing he does to it is put fuel in it, he might have changed the oil once or twice but I know when he bought it it cost him a bucket of money so you pay for it one way or another.

I happened to see this video recently on the latest ride ons and their various quality in America.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
