Hi Max, I am loosing patience with this bloke who want one of the Deutschers, he started on about wanting an electric start motor fitted and I told him the only electric start option was the 13hp ones expecting that to scare him off. Problem is I have to extend the chassis by 100mm because the motor is too wide to fit between the handles. That is not a major problem and then he told me the vreason why he wanted electric start was because he couldn't pull start a mower motor. I then said to him if he could not pull start a 6hp motor then he had no hope of manhandling a Deutscher up around his property between all the fruit trees which is on quite a slope and uneven ground. I'm at the stage of telling him to just go away and stop annoying me..

There's a word. It's called no. More people should use it.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I guess you could tell him to drill start the mower Norm.
Another easy conversion is a kick starter .you just need a bracket and a pivoting lever that pulls on the rope starter when pushing down with your foot.
Making a kick starter would be easier than changing the motor and widening the base.
Cheers Max.

It gets worse MF, Friday night when he was here annoying me while I was explaining to him about the problems the extra weight with the bigger motor I went to step across the front of the mower and caught my foot and fell forward onto a pair of full crank slashers, luckily both had the big cowls on them so my hands landed on them but I have hurt both arms so I am out of action for a few more days at least. Hi Max, I guess something like that could work, but my thinking is if he isn't strong enough to pull start a 6.5hp motor he is not strong enough to control/manhandle a Deutscher around even with the zero turn front The Ferex I was looking at was about 220cc and another one was 196cc so I'm not sure what the starters were like on those but they are a bigger end motor

Sounds like a sign NormK. Glad you weren't badly hurt. You can't be too careful around the home.

G'day Norm and Mf Yes lucky you had something to grab onto Norm and the cowls stopped you getting worse injuries . I guess something like that could work, but my thinking is if he isn't strong enough to pull start a 6.5hp motor he is not strong enough to control/manhandle a Deutscher around even with the zero turn front Yes sounds right Norm, he should be paying a contractor to cut the grass .If it wasn't such a big area a line trimmer would work. Cheers Max.

That is what caught me out MF, he was always saying that they were all too dear so when I told him the electric motor was going to cost over $500 I thought he would run away but he just replied do it.

Tell him the $500 motor wont work and you would need to use a gxv390 honda at $1100 (which also you probably won't get til april if the honda guy I talked to last week is right haha)
Also, I hope you are making him pay for whatever motor (at least partly) upfront.

Pretty much given up on trying to help him Tyler, I think I will just order a new 6.5 Chonda put that on it and sell it to somebody who appreciates just what they are. They sell really easily, any Duetscher that is in good working condition and priced under $1000 is gone in a flash even when they are 30/40 years old

NormK you need to stop helping these charity cases and look out for number one. No one else will.
