We all know what a thrill it is to score a mower or other outdoor power equipment on a trash pile in the street, but the other day I felt relieved to get rid of a pair of whippys, a Gardenline and old Robin, after getting useful bits I wanted off them. My patio is that bit less untidy as a result. Someone had a small pile across street, so took the opportunity to dispose of no longer wanted equipment. It feels good to getting rid of stuff too!

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Rover 18inch chainsaw (felt like smashing it against brick wall but put it on verge)
GMC 2 stroke genset (FUBAR)
masport 18in w/ classic 35 running but knackered 2x ryobi hedgers, about 6 whippers total couple catchers and victa wheels (dont worry Norm, the wheels were stuffed haha)
Couple of other mowers
Really did nothing to reduce the pile unfortunately which I need to sort out post haste
Have about 2x decent mowers, a gene, and 10 whippers I will sell off soon
Recently at least 125 mowers were scrapped a lot of good seventies eighties Victa, Rover, Masport , Pace, 5 good 550 pro mowers ,3 were self drive , another 5 self drive Victa rear discharge, all the VC sports models and VC 1st and 2nd models ,VC mustangs.
Most were crack free bases and motors ran well but when advertised I couldn't get $25. and some I had spent over $30. on them.
I sold 3 good running mowers for $20 each. just because they were too good to scrap but it took at least a month to sell one at that price so had to scrap all the good mowers as it would just take too long to sell them.
A lot of the left over parts will be used on other projects so glad to get rid of these mowers..
A few weeks ago I tried to sell 3 good undamaged alloy F/C bases for $10 each but they ended up going to the scrap. I don't waste much time on idiots that want a serviced good running mower for any less than $50. Even at $50 it is a complete waste of my time but it gets another mower out of the place. I have brought very few mowers here in the last couple of years, I don't actively chase after them anymore.
It sure is Norm, I had 2 perfect seventies Rover Mowers and 2 perfect seventies Scott Bonnar Mowers all with Briggs 3.5 Hp motors ,I had paid $10. each for them and then had converted them to electronic ignition and it was sell for $20. or sell the alloy bases in scrap but at that price I didn't put new oil in them, one Scott Bonnar I gave away for free.
Any Victa 2 stroke late model serviced with alloy base and catcher I would only get $50. and then the first thing the scumtree buyer does is to complain that the mower has a 2 blade plate instead of a 4 and wants the mower for $40. so that's why I don't sell 2 strokes and gave away my good metal bases and sell the alloy ones in scrap.
I've also tried to sell good alloy mowers missing an engine for $5. but no interest so just scrap them.
At $50. for a good running mower, I won't put new oil in for that price as it costs minimum $40. to pay someone to cut a small amount of grass so if you're the buyer you only need to use the mower once to get your money's worth.
I see a lot of mowers advertised for $200. but I'd be lucky to get $20. for the same mower so I just scrap the alloy base.
MF, list a line trimmer at $105 for 6 weeks with no interest. Then put it at $99 and within 12 hours you will have 10+ fwits offering $40. Absolutely bloody hopeless.

Does have its good sides sometimes though. Sold a masport and the guy asked if I was interested in his old mower for parts - said he had his "old 2 stroke POS in the car - it runs and cuts but I can't be stuffed mixing 2 stroke fuel".
Walked out figuring it would be a stuffed old commando, anyway out comes this 2006 Victa Razor 19in alloy deck with VSX160. Covered in dust but barely a scratch on it.
Top of the wazza with deckwash fitting and drink bottle holder (with the original victa ngk drink bottle in it).
I just about had a coronary - asked him how much he wanted for it.
"Its yours, no one would want an old 2 stroke anyway... saves me throwing it in the bin"
Straight to the pool room - only bug bear is I have to track down the notoriously hard to find filter housing
of late plenty of old mustang and cortina frames have gone to scrap, there is more in selling the engine on ebay than there is fixing them and getting them up to a standard. a couple of rusty/bent victa frames, all of my chonda stuff.
I wont waste my time on line trimmers unless they are brand name, as soon as I get one thats thrown in with a deal or donated, they pretty much go in the scrap pile.
at the moment for me $140 + for any half decent 4 stroke victa/rover/masport and they are flying out the driveway faster than I can get them repaired and serviced.
There's no way I would get $140. for a second hand mower around my area the plus side is a lot of people around here throw out their mower when it's about 3 years old because the air filter is blocked with dirt or the spark plug has failed or just needs a carby clean, as soon as their mower doesn't run it goes to a trash pile ,I once picked up a new mower that had a gum nut stuck on the blade so the mower gave the impression that it was seized.
I've seen tool shops around here selling new ex demo mowers with briggs motors for $100. ,it was a few years ago.
I bought one of the ex demo mowers used it for 5 years and then sold it for $100.
A lot of the time people throw out a good working mower because they would rather pay someone to cut the lawn and if the starter cord breaks.
