Hi all,

I have the ALDI Ferrex brushcutter, the other day couldn't start the damn thing. Have had trouble starting previous times too. Getting to the point where I would try to start it over and over, then the pull cord starter mechanism would break. Anyways, that's a different story. I pulled the carby out to clean it in case it was blocked, however, putting it back together something isn't right. there's a spring mechanism that causes the lever ontop of the carby (that connects to the throttle cable) that suppose to spring back, but it stops half way, either losing force or resistance coming from somewhere. Because this happens, the throttle cable pops out of it's slot on the carby.

I'm not sure if perhaps I'm missing a piece, or perhaps not putting something back correctly, I'm also not sure of the type / model of these carbies so I'm not sure where to find a carb diagram I can look at.

Here's some pics. I also have a short video of the lever stopping.

I've tried loosening the brass screw on top, no luck. I've also tried applying fresh grease (Super Lube Multi-purpose synthetic grease) to the slide (see pic), no change. Originally it had white grease, possibly lithium?

Anyone have a diagram or have any idea what's going on ? Trimmer isn't very old and has only had about half a dozen uses since new.

Ok, so first of all that tiny little recessed brass screw on top is the idle mixture screw. If it was hard to start (and especially if not sprightly when you rev it) a half a turn out from factory is a good thing.

My suggestion for the sticking is to apply grease on the rotary barrel - undo the two phillips head screws, and pull the whole top plastic bit off.

There will be a small 1cm long cylinder underneath it (with a thin brass rod in the middle. Thats what you see black in the carby throat - the way these work is that external lump on the slider lifts up the power needle - its a variable jet. lube up the cylinder and check for any swarf from the factory.

Normally that will fix it, but sometimes with these they are hopeless. Is this the 5in1 trimmer with the hedger, saw, edger etc? Black and red motor? If so, they use a 'sunseeker' branded carb - lowest of the low. It will be stamped sunseeker somewhere on the carb

Despite multiple attempts, I couldn't get the one I was tasked with to work

Please also bear in mind these are a straight knock off of a walbro wyj carby, if all else fails its sub $25 on ebay to throw a whole carby on.

Yep, I see that one. The larger screw ontop (with the hole), I thought was tight, but didn't do anything when loosened. Regarding the smaller idle screw, I couldn't remember it's position when removed, so when I put back back together, I screwed it all the way down, then backed it out one full turn. It 'looks' like the position is was when I took it a part, but I'm not sure if it is the correct position it should be. If/when I get it started, I'll have to turn it a little to get the idle running in a good position.

Lubed it all up, but looks like it turned out to be a lack of tension in the spring. I rotated the top part one full turn (keeping the barrel still) so the spring would have more tension, now seems to snap back into place. (see video)

Not the 5-in-1, but the engine looks very similar, though not black/red motor, just a normal grey motor. The shaft looks like it could take those attachments though.

Thanks for the model number too. I'll have to get some info / diagram on it for next time I tear it down. I'll throw the carb back in and hopefully get it going.
