As the title suggests, I have stashed away among the spare 2 stroke motors a couple of solid 4 strokes.

One is a tecumseh that came off a big w special victa sabre from the early 00's.

I also have a masport 18in with a 450 briggs on it. As I have said before, the 148cc briggs and stratton is a perfectly average motor - runs averagely, uses an average amount of fuel and has average power. The later ones made in china with high governed idle just don't even sound that nice.

An appliance which never brings much joy
That being said, I have had several hours of joy throwing leaves, palm fronds and sticks down the chute on the victa wood chipper I built with the governor running it as hard as it can and bogging down to under 1000 rpm. Generally treating the motor as a throw away - which I do with no other machine I own - because I can get another 450 briggs at 2 minutes notice if it throws the rod.

Back to topic, wouldnt mind putting the tecumseh on the masport deck.

Anyone know how shaft lengths will go? I know I will need to use victa boss and disc, but height wise is what I am worried about.

I have a turned 10mm spacer off a chonda that would space the blades down without risk.

By my calcs, after the spacer I would be 5mm too high up into the deck which shouldn't effect much

Do my numbers sound right given victa shaft lengths and masport required lengths?

Thanks

Hi Tyler,
I deleted what I posted before about the shaft lengths. I just measured a Tecumesh with a Vict boss on it and it is about 40mm long whereas the Briggs measures about 60mm .I just checked a Victa base with a Tecumesh on it and it is bolted direct to the base .Briggs used the 20mm spacers to get the correct cutting height

Hi Norm

Thanks for going to the trouble

I distinctly remember this tecumseh had a spacer ring. It isn't one of the old ones that was mounted sideways - sparkplug was facing forward.

In that case it may go straight onto the masport without height issue
