I reckon those mowers are one of the best ever made by Victa. Light as a mower could be, good cut radius, very easy to move around, plenty of power for any job and really durable. Thrashes the four strokes on every practical measure for our conditions.
I think that is almost the last of the extended tank models with the chromed cowl. They went to a plastic cowl extension and then full plastic and they disintegrate.
I have an older model stashed away that’s in nowhere near as good nick as that one. I keep an eye out for a good one but they’ve become like hen’s teeth. A good get!
Hi MF, I don't know, but he said he got it going. He's like us, now he's had enough, and wants to sell his Scott Bonner collection...Just keep his Honda to mow his lawn.... The old Victa was siezed, 125cc maybe Victa 18. engine number 273514 with 4 below.. I might soak it in molasses and loosen up everything........see if it all moves. speedy

Hi speedy, Do you plan on putting a bit of a skirt around the front, I'm going to on the one I have, just to stop toes going under there. Also what are you going to do on the chute side, I'm going to make a small chute to protect toes there as well and stop projectiles getting flung out of there
The spare Victa motor is from a Victa 18 ,2 nd model alloy base with only 2 side skirt bolts on one side.
the highest number Victa 18 I have is around 351,000.
I'm fairly sure the front metal cover on the cowl isn't original as they were plastic ,the early utility Victa mowers were a cheap mower so were 125cc then when they did go to 160 cc it was 1968 1969 and Victa was using the plastic cover on the cowl. Having the muffler outlet go under the base means it's at least a 1971 model.
Victa were still selling the 125 cc ute alongside the 160cc ute .
They are a good mower ,it wouldn't surprise me if I still had 10 of these orange side throws here.
Hi Norm and Max and Ironbark, I won't worry about a skirt ,maybe put a cover over shute , good idea. So it's a 70.s 160. I just water blasted it so will let it dry in the sun and start it. cheers speedy

It didn't start, good spark, must be fuel... But I want to spend my isolation on my new 62 year old Pope 2 stroke. I mowed a mates lawn a week ago, and today his son said he had to mow his dads lawn........ It's good up here if you like mowing....... further up north, it grows faster..... cheers speedy

Hope you get the Pope in operational condition soon.
If you don't mind me asking herespeedy, what would you do here? I cannot find the matching colour anywhere -unless I take the mower to an automotive colour matching centre. What would you do here? I have thought of treating it then masking off and painting that section across in black. What do you or others suggest. Same with the lifted label which now has grit stuck on the underside.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
MF, don't know about the paint but peel the sticker full off, use some petrol on a rag to get rid of dirt and old glue, then use strong double sized tape or contact adhesive
A lot do that with the paint under that spring. If you want perfect match, get a razor blade and lift a small piece of paint, 8mm square, and take to Bunnings paint shop. They can put it under computer matching machine, and mix that colour up. But that paint looks like epoxy.... Sometimes I throw some close match or undercoat on them. Sometimes big flakes come off. Like they don't undercoat the bases.. quality workmanship???
Yes I'm keen to do the Pope. I am fixing carb, made a cable end nipple out of solder. Now I'm fully isolated, got more time but I'm not well..... speedy

The sticker I would just remove if selling the mower but is easily glued down with silastic or glue.
The paint missing at the back you can get the closest you can to the colour at Bunnings or leave primer or black etc on the back edge ,it's only a cheap mower.
