I've been trying to find a source for these kinds of vinyl grips in Australia but not having any luck at all. They are for flat levers. Plenty of them in UK and USA but postage is too expensive. As a last resort I have used heatshrink in the past, but I find it doesn't last very long.

I use the dip in stuff. It comes in a paint tin and you just dunk the handle in and it comes out coated. It can be had in several colours but my last tin was red. Sometimes you need to give it a couple of coats to get the right feel.

It’s been a while since I bought any so I can’t recall where I bought mine from. I’m thinking the engineering supplier but it could just as easily have been a hardware shop.

I just had a look and it appears one source is auto parts stores: Supercheap and Autobarn both list one brand of it. That’s not the one I use but at least it’s still available from there.

Thanks for the advice. I discovered that some 19mm handlebar grips work okay. They are round but can be pushed over the rectangular lever and form a fairly snug fit. I guess a bit of glue might hold them in place, but so far they seem tight enough to do the job, and they look okay too.
