Quick question for the mods, why is there a limit for attachments set at 2.85mb per photo?

I understand the idea of a limit to prevent people posting 50 minute videos and clogging up copious amounts of data space, but I am finding 2.85mb to be progressively less attainable.

It was fine using my 10 year old olympus camera, but on even a fairly basic 'smart' phone, a decent image is normally 2.7-3mb, HD more like 3.6. I took about 15 photos of a mower in HD and standard, and only 2x came under the 2.85mb limit - and they are bloody awful photos even to my eye.

I tried compressing but 1) they look only 1/2 as good and 2) I can't be bothered wasting 10 minutes trying to buggerise around doing it.

There is probably a good way to do it but I don't know - heck, the way I get the photos off the phone in the first place is to email them to myself and access them that way.

I am not saying put a sky high file limit that allows 4K, 2160p photos, but is there someway around the 2.85mb?

Though it is sort of scary to think that 1 photo now takes up more space that what is on a 3.5in floppy disc isn't it smile

Thanks

Especially when a 3.5" floppy is usually only 1.44mb. now of I still using 640 x 480 dpi images myself. I don't even have an operating cell phone; although, I still uses its camera for still images.

Here it is getting to a point where everywhere is demanding my cell number which of course I can't give what I don't have. I have places that refuse to provide me service because of it.

G'day Tyler and AVB

The easiest way is to right click on the image then open the image with paint on a Windows computer .

Set the image on pixels ,put your length in 1200 and width is automatically done,

Then just save as a JPEG.

A little bit of a hassle if converting a few at one time otherwise a conversion program does them all
in one go.

I was a little like AVB ,at first I didn't want a mobile or smart phone but when you do it's like 1 million times
easier to get things done. There really is no excuse these days for not having a mobile unless you live
somewhere there's no service , people would give me broken I phones ( password locked)
but it wasn't hard to repair and install new operating systems. Just google what you don't know.

Besides not too many people have land lines these days because they are a rip off even the
pay phones are free.https://exchange.telstra.com.au/why-were-making-payphones-free-for-calls-around-australia/

Cheers
Max

Max that is exactly my main problem. Have signal a second, take one or two steps and no signal. Totally useless for me to have one. That is why I got a cordless landline phone with a 1000 ft range.

Yes it's a little annoying when the signal is low and drops out AVB.

These days there are a few ways to check that problem and possibly fix it.

Look up your closest phone tower and see what frequencies it transmits and make sure the type of
mobile you have uses the same frequencies as these frequencies are updated from time to time.

Cellular Signal Boosters are another item worth looking at with a weak signal.

Thanks for the method Max

The problem is, if we want ODK to remain relavant into the future, it can't be expected that photos coming out of a standard phone need stuffing around with just to post.
Facebook certainly doesn't, arboristite doesn't and I would guess other sites don't either.

I am pretty lenient with stuffing with things to get them to work (aren't we all working on mowers haha) but it just gets to the point where technology annoys me

AVB, I had a flip phone until last year. last one went from 2012 to 2020 and still works fine. I bought a $129 post office smart phone and it would have to be one of the most infuriating things I have ever dealt with.

It has 1gb ram, so it crashes loading google maps. was lost and it was of no help so I slammed shut the screen in the same way as my old flip phone - cracked it straight through.

I still use the street directory

It should be easily changed Automatically with a plugin Tyler.

I guess when paying another company to supply your site it may be a little tricky to get things changed or not ?

Little bit of a shame about the $129. phone Tyler as I know the $150. Motorola with 2 GB of ram is fine .

Cheers
Max.

Thank you very much for that Max

I was trying to work out how to use the wordpress one but ended up downloading chrome extension Vidmore image compressor - in the google chrome store for free. works well thanks.

With regard to the phone, I bought a replacement 2 months ago - jb hifi had a special for a Nokia with 2gb, 4000mah battery (mine has 2500) better camera and generally nicer feel. Also has full android, not cheapo android go - which is to android what a lawnkeeper is to a regular victa.

On special for $61.

Have been lazy and haven't switched to it (aside charging and checking functionality). Only thing I could fault is there is a cortina button or alexa or other AI, so if you knock it you get the annoying one asking what it can help you with.
