Hello
ODK History Lovers
The
Model 56 5-foot trailed mower was an
attachment initially designed for the Rover
Ranger. Introduced in
the mid-1960s, the machine would have a production
life-span of about two decades.
The design was not a common one in that it had
no centre cutting blade; but two outrigger blades
that had to be operated in conjunction with a
garden tractor with its own cutter deck:
Two engines, 3 cutters shared by two machines…
This is an early Australian rotary mower and it
is a good example of how the need for garden
tractors - designed for our harsh Australian
conditions - ‘took off’ in the 1960s.
This also reflects the
growth in large suburban
acreages that surrounded Australia’s capital cities.
This attachment enabled a Ranger to cut three acres per hour!
