So amongst the things I have been offerd, by the great old guy I met last week, was the sunbeam mower. All there. I think from memory that one or both catchers had sunbeam on the side. Those catchers are perfect condition too. Any body want to let me know if this old "Sunbeam" mower is a bit less common then most?
I can't remember With I do remember they were beautiful. That picture doesn't show the good side! He was an old bloke trying to show no holes in the bottom. I'm sure at least 1 has sunbeam on it
The Sunbeam you showed it's reasonably common as wce pointed out, but that starter alone recently fetched $51 on the bay of fleas and your one could too.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
I would say that model Sunbeam with a 160 wouldn't be that hard to find, a little like a VC sports 160 you see them for sale from time to time but the 125 model is more difficult to get your grubby hands on.
The other thing I would like to find out is if the cowling on the Victa Sunbeam would fit the early Sunbeam but I haven't bee able to find one locally to compare. If someone has one could they let me know. The model pictured has the fuel cap hole on the same side as the early Sunbeam.
I also think it unlikely, but looking at the images of both it looks very close to the same and the screw holes look to be in the same location. Ill have to wait until one comes up to compare in the flesh.
Sorry WCE, if only I lived in WA. I am planning a road trip around Australia with mower collecting in mind. When that happens, I'll bring the cowling for you to check. Unless you have some measurements for me to check that way!
Thanks boys! I'll definitely keep this as a conservation job. It's in spectacular condition, it's just a bit dirty.
I love this forum!!!
When I do my road trip, I'm hoping to meet as many mower enthusiasts along the way as possible. Interview (if they agree) and talk collecting, restoring or just mowers in general and meeting people.
I have 4 spare orange zip starters like that one. I have heaps of parts. I've got 7 impulse starters, countless mustang green cowlings, power torque parts and engines filling up all of the fileing wall. And so on and so on.....
I found out very quickly that if you want to restore older mowers, that you sadly need donors..... I do my best to not dismantle as many as possible.....
I have to put these on my thread about meeting great people! I purchased 3 mowers today, pick them up next Wednesday. 1 1974 purple VC-SPORT (poor condition) 1 1980 Green mustang with white cowling 1 late 70's MARK 4 V173
Im thinking about the other mustang. The one with the red sticker!!!
The person I'm getting these off is an absolute legend!!!
Holy guacomole, you're going to become the national museum for Victas. What a spectacular haul and good photographs showing them in good light, particularly the green Mustang pigeon pair. Makes me want one again.
