G'day Sean
That was a nice gesture from Masport, and sincere thanks to
you for sharing it at ODK.
I have often said that if Victa dominated the 2-stroke market here
with their Victa engines, NZ power rotary mower production was
dominated by many makers in NZ using the Ironhorse 2-stroke.
Masport was NZ's equivalent to AUS's Victa. Both were the
No. 1 in their respective countries.
The key difference between the Victa and Ironhorse was
in their basic designs - Ironhorse motors had a reed valve
that injected fuel directly into the crankcase; Victa used
the piston as a valve to inject fuel into the crankcase.
I guess the Ironhorse was the more efficient (and refined) of
the two; but the Victa was a more robust design for our conditions.
[I hope that's not too controversial].
The Ironhorse had a mechanical governor; the Victa engine had a
pneumatic system (when Victa finally used a governor!!!).
Brilliant!
