Fitting my red Kirby 4 stroke engine to my restored SB33 0919 (flat bar handles).

I find that the engine output shaft contacts (end to end) to the clutch shaft inside the friction clutch housing. This stops the engine sliding over the engine securing bolt holes (4) on the solid base plate by approx 10mm.

Any ideas why this is happening and what solutions are out there. The clutch lever is not engaged, I could shorten up the engine output shaft if the problem is caused by mix matched parts.
(I have sourced parts from two SB33 wrecks, so the restoration is a mix match of parts.)

If this is anything like log splitter setups here with horizontal engine where the new engine pto shaft is long it is a simple matter to just shorten the PTO . Just got it is done squarely. Here several jobs required shorten the shafts by 3/4 of an inch so the Love Joy coupler could fit inside the housing that coupled the hydraulic pump.

Now of course I have never seen a SB33 mower so others here that is more familiar with the setup might know better.

Thanks for the replies. I have fixed the problem without the need to cut down the output shaft of the engine.

I checked out a spare clutch shaft (from my spare parts) and found that it is 10mm shorter than the one that I used, I swapped them over and I now have an operating clutch.

Another example of where asking questions on a forum like this one creates information and allows you to search for answers and learn more about a subject.
Thanks

Sometimes that our discussions do get member to go through their minds cobwebs. I had similar experiences when asking questions to only have come to light from the cobwebs of my mind.
