Hi guys I'm new to the forum
I recently bought a Scott Bonnar 33 and currently doing a restoration on it, I changed all the bearings got the reel and bed knife sharpened. I have put the drive clutch back together but having some issues when I tighten the nut it will fully engage the clutch and if i was to run it like that it would just take off without me pressing the lever, I am able to back off the nut which would then make the clutch work correctly but if I do that the nut is loose and can turn it self off when using the mower. i have had a look at the diagram and think i have all the parts in the correct order but i could be wrong,
note when i got the mower the drive clutch was working fine
Here are some photos of the parts i have for the drive clutch I also have 2 extra shims/ flat washers in top of photo which were part of the drive clutch but unsure where they go and in the diagram it doesn't show them so not sure if someone previously have added these in there, any help would be much appreciated

thanks

Andrew

I don't know the 33, but it looks similar to the 45 and my Rover. It's hard to confirm from that pdf...but on mine and the 45's, the clutch operating bolt has the head on the outside of the clutch sprocket and the nut goes on the other side of the frame, on the end of the bolt thread that is sticking out of the lever the clutch cable moves. It shouldn't be fully tightened, it should have about 2mm clearance for the bolt to move back and forth through the shaft the clutch sprocket sits on, and when you release the clutch handle it moves out and takes the pressure off the outer clutch sprocket

Here's a pic of the rover drive clutch assembly, the 45 is pretty similar, see how the bolt that operates the clutch os the other way around..

Thanks Andy, i think the 45 and 33 are a bit different the nut actually bolts onto the cylinder shaft , i was able to fix the issue by putting a washer/spacer in front of the clutch and locking nut which then gave the clutch some play to move back and forth.

thanks for your help

Nice one. Good to hear, they are a cool looking machine. I almost bought one here in Melbourne that had been fully restored, was beautiful.
