Hey all. Thought some of you might like to see the progress thus far on my series 5 special rebuild.

As this mower is going to be regularly used, I decided to do a 2020 style rebuild. I will be replacing all bolts/nuts/hardware with correctly sized new pieces. Experience thus far has shown me that the old bolts etc are just to fragile and brittle to handle ongoing use.

So, here is where I’m at. The machine has been stripped down, rust removed/or treated and locked down. Components repainted and top coated with a clear layer to provide additional protection. As I’m not doing a ‘restoration’ for display purposes, I’ve gone a bit slap happy with my colour scheme.

New wheels.

Looking pretty snappy there Scott, love the wheels, where did they come from?

Hey Norm,

They are from bunnings. $8 each. Had to get some spacers as the axles are too long/the wheel hubs are not as big as the origional Victa wheels

G'day Scott Thrift and Norm

I love this take on the Model 5.
It is the Model T of the Victa world - it made Merv a millionaire
and put Victa on the map in international markets. Brilliant!
But you are making it ... yours!

Like Norm, I love the aggressive wheels and also the stealthy
black height adjuster covers.

There's no need to be a stickler with this most famous Victa.
There are sufficient original examples already!

This is a rat-rotary in the making.
I look forward to seeing the end result.

Continue this boldness!

Cheers
