Just something to keep in mind.

Picked up a nice but not running Victa, I could see the primer cap was new but after the chap fitted it and it wouldn't start he parked in the shed. I put some fresh fuel in, opened the tap and fuel was leaking out so I thought the o ring was old or pinched. Took the cap off, all looked good, checked the float operation and it was very stiff at the pivot points. On further inspection the post that the float slides onto is all good at the base but the the gap between the 2 closes at the top impeding the float movement, tried a couple of my floats, same deal, the o ring was fine. Turns out this new cap is slightly warped.
Put one of my spares on, no leaks and runs beautiful.

Cheers
wce

G'day wce,
a cheap poorly made aftermarket copy.
What also gets me is why the circumference is different on some.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hi Norm,
I just received one today, looks good, not cheap $17 +. a lot for a plastic part .
They could make these in China and sell them for $7 .........
It will be good when all the Chinese factories are running again and containers are moving and jets are bringing in my parts........
speedy

Have seen a few like that wce. One I left a screwdriver wedged in it for a couple of weeks and it stayed bent properly. The other way is wedge and apply a light flame to bend it back

Hi speedy,
what makes you think your $17 cap was not made in China. Last week I fitted a new cap and needle to a mower and it leaked straight up, another new cap, same needle and it was fine. This is ok for me as I have a lot of these to play with but if as speedy has, he is relying on that particular cap and if it fails he is out of pocket a lot of money and has to wait for another one to arrive.

I don't really know where it was made.

In case you guys are wondering, I meant to cue it up to the part where he says it's from China but this deuced site puts up a whole thumbnail of the blinking video instead, making me look like a Trump fanatic.
That wasn't the image I intended.

Never mind MF, we forgive you, but I don't think Donald will forgive the Chinese.

Hi Everyone,

Just to share you my video below. NormK is right, this primer cap is made in China but proud to say the specs and design parameters is from Australia. We knew what we want and what we need.

Hi CM,
excellent explanation and proof the other aftermarket stuff is junk as I have said many times some years ago. I started on this problem a year or so behind you and I was turning down needles to try and get them to work. I couldn't find a viton one I thought I could work with so I was pulling out the seat in the primer cap and fitting a Briggs seat in there and turning down the Briggs needle to suit. I had moderate success and I guess there is a few still floating around that I haven't seen again. Any that I have come across I have replaced with a cap and needle you supplied. Hopefully you still have stock of the needles as once I get back to fixing mowers again I will need more, although my supply of mowers over the last 12 months certainly has dried up
