Hello
ODK history lovers
In the old days the great lawnmower makers would produce large
illustrated
catalogues covering their respective range for particular
years. The catalogue was definitive in outlining models offered for
a year. Many of these catalogues were colourful and beautifully
illustrated and … costly to produce.
These catalogues were distributed mostly to brand
importers acting as company
agents (in other countries), and then through
their
dealer networks.
By the 1960s, mower makers became more
flexible in catalogue
production. Ransomes, like many, adopted the
folio approach,
using individual brochures that could be
collated in a folio that
could be
updated from time to time.
If a particular model did not change, then the particular
document was kept in the folio. If a model was changed,
or a new model introduced, then a brochure was added to
the folio.
Here I present a
Ransomes Folio from the
early 1960s.
It
collates about a dozen model brochures offered at that time.
The folio cover is embossed with the company’s then current slogan:
Ransomes Mow the World. Beautiful!
